Geneva Patricia Thomas, the daughter of the late Arthur and Willie Lee Goode Daye, was born Monday, November 28, 1927, in Pendleton, (Northampton County) North Carolina.
Geneva was educated in the Northampton County School System, graduating from Willis Hare High School, Class of 1949. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Savior and united in Christian Fellowship with the Zoar Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the Nursing Ministry.
Geneva later relocated to Washington, DC. She furthered her education at The Washington Institute for Employment Training and Medical Aid Training School. She became employed with Judge Warren Burger, as an in-home Registered Nurse; and later with the Marriott Corporation. After her retirement, she returned to North Carolina, where she grew up.
Geneva was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was the Matriarch of family. She instilled nuggets of wisdom in each of her family members and encouraged them. Her discipline and abundance of love will serve as pillar of strength for the days to come.
On Tuesday, October 3, 2017, our dear loved one answered God's solemn call from earthly labor unto eternal rest at Rich Square Health Care Center, Rich Square, North Carolina. Her seeds are well sown, her service on earth is complete and she now experiences the victory and triumph of life.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by: her grandson, Jerry L. Garris, Jr.
She leaves not to mourn her passing, but to cherish many sweet memories: two daughters, Lorraine Edwards of Fort Washington, Maryland and Marian Edwards of Oxon Hill, Maryland; four grandchildren, Derrick L. Matthews, Paul A. Butcher, Jr. (Airricka), Shannon N. Simmonds (David) and Christopher D. Washington; five great-grandchildren, Alicia A. Rice, Alanna Jerry-Hope Simmonds, Derrick J. Foxworth, Paul A. Butcher, III and Johnathan L. Butcher; one brother, Hinton Daye (Beulah) of Neptune, New Jersey; a host of relatives and friends.
