Sad is the parting, no one can tell;  So sudden on earth, the sorrow fell
The blow was hard, the shock severe; To part with one we love so dear
Dearer still, as days depart; Our loved one's memory
will forever live within our heart!

George Matthew Grant, began his journey through life on  October 24, 1946, in Northampton County, North Carolina. He was born to the parentage of the late Bill Harris and Thelma Lee Grant Blunt.
George was educated in the Northampton County Public Schools; graduating from Willis Hare High School, Class of 1965.  Being reared in a Christian home, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior; was baptized and he united in Christian Fellowship with First Baptist Church, Severn, North Carolina.  George served faithfully on the Usher's Ministry, when his health permitted.
After high school, George enlisted in the Armed Forces, serving his country in the United States Army.  He was assigned to the 228th Aviation Battalion (Assault Support Helicopter) 1st Calvary Division, where he was an active participant in the Vietnam War.  After completing his tour of duty, he returned to his hometown of Severn, North Carolina, where he resided until his demise.
For many years, George was employed with Vicar Plant Foods, until his retirement.  He served as a community softball coach and was a gun enthusiast.
On Wednesday, December 20, 2017; God in his infinite wisdom, called  our beloved father, brother, uncle and friend, George Matthew Grant, home to eternal rest. "Come ye, blessed of my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you."  In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by:  one sister, Patricia Blunt.
He leaves not to mourn his passing, but to reflect upon many fond memories: his son, Kevin McGlenn Stephenson (Chonda) of Emporia, Virginia; two daughters-at-heart, whom he  reared just as his own, Joyce Artis of Raleigh, North Carolina and Venninna Artis of Pendleton, North Carolina; his siblings, Roslyn Parker (Herman) of Severn, North Carolina, Christine Kindred of Manhattan, New York,  Oliver Grant of Severn, North Carolina and Willie Blunt of Silver Springs, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
