Gertrude H. (Headen) Horton

       Gertrude Headen Horton, the daughter of the late Luranna Trott, began her journey through life on April 27, 1931 in Chatham County, North Carolina. 
     Gertrude graduated from Chatham High School, Siler City, North Carolina.  She was employed as a cafeteria staff, with the Chatham County School System.   She also worked at Hickory Farms, prior to retiring as a housekeeper from UNC Chapel Hill.
     Gertrude united in fellowship with Wesley Chapel Christian Fellowship Church, Siler City, where she served faithfully.  She was a member of the Sunday School, Usher's Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Dance Ministry and she sang in the choir. 
     A special person, in so many ways; Gertrude loved people.  She was very active, and enjoyed dancing and activities with her family and friends.  Gertrude loved working in her beautiful flower gardens and cooking; especially pintos beans. Gertrude was united in matrimony to the late Tyree Horton.  This union was enhanced with five children.
     On Monday, March 6, 2017, our dear loved one answered God's solemn call from earthly labor unto eternal rest at UNC-Hospital, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  Her seeds are well sown, her service on earth is complete and she now experiences the victory and triumph of life.  
     In addition to  her mother and husband, Gertrude was also preceded in death by:  two children, Tyree Newby Jr. and Keith Horton; her granddaughter, Tanea and one sister, Bernice Headen.
     She leaves not to mourn her passing, but to cherish many sweet memories: three children, Phyllis Manley (James) of Leesburg, Virginia, Hope Welch and Byron Horton both of Siler City, North Carolina;  six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, her step-brother, Earl Trott; a host of other relatives and friends.
