Raymond Lynn Ponton, Sr.

     Raymond Lynn Ponton, Sr. son of the late William Henry 'Bud' Ponton and Leona E. Bracey Ponton, was born March 17, 1958, in  Halifax County, North Carolina. 
     Raymond was educated in the Northampton County School System; attending Gumberry High School.  At the age of 32, Raymond enrolled at Halifax Community College, Weldon, North Carolina, where he earned his high school diploma.  He later went on to complete course studies and graduated from the Industrial Maintenance Program.  He also became a Certified HVAC Technician from Paul D. Camp Community College, Franklin, Virginia.  
     Raymond was always full of laughter and joy.  He was a strong and hard working man, who believed in making sure his family was taken care of, even throughout his illness.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.  Raymond loved to fish and listen to Southern Soul music.  He especially loved his wife and children and constantly reminded them to keep in contact and take care of each other.  
       During the last few years of his life, Raymond faithfully studied with Jehovah's Witness and began attending meetings at the Kingdom Hall, where he expressed his loved for Jehovah and his belief that he would one day be resurrected to everlasting life in Paradise. 
     Raymond peacefully fell asleep in death on Friday, August 11, 2017, in the serenity of his home.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by:  two brothers, Wilson Ponton and Edward Ponton. 
     Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: his devoted wife, Shelia White Ponton of the home; three loving children, Teresa Ponton Bullock of Emporia, Virginia, Stephanie Ponton Martin of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina and Raymond L. Ponton, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina; four adorable grandchildren, Ray-Qwuane Bullock, Ty-Reke Bullock both of Emporia, Virginia, Donte' Martin of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina and Tre'mond Ponton of Bowie Maryland; four caring siblings, Ethel Thompson (James) of Garysburg, North Carolina, Mildred Lindsey (Eugene) of West Orange, New Jersey, Roy Ponton (Mary Ann) and Stephen Ponton (Linda) both of Montclair, New Jersey; his supportive in-laws, Louise Washington, Emma Whitby (Robert), Leah Boone (Randolph), Nancy Ruffin (Johnny), Eva Rogers (Ronald), Ernestine Gay, Mabel Ponton, Wilson White (Betty), Leonard White and John White; a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
