Rev. John Deloatch, Jr. Obituary

John Wilton Deloatch, Jr. was born September 15, 1961, to Ola M. Deloatch and the late John W. Deloatch, Sr.  John got his wings on Tuesday, February 28, 2018. He was a native of Northampton County, North Carolina. He attended Northampton County High School - East, where he played football and graduated in 1979. He graduated from Saint Augustine College in 1984. After graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army, as a Commissioned Officer and rose to the high rank of Major, before completing his commissioned assignment. He was stationed in Germany, Kentucky and served a tour of duty in Desert Storm.

John, also affectionately known as 'Mook, Papa John and Mr. John', loved his family. After the passing of his father, he returned to his home town, where he retired from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Division of Community Corrections.  He spoke often of his late grandparents, aunts and his father and the impact they had on his life, as a young child and adult man.  Anyone who knew John, knew he loved his children, John III 'Trey' and Dominica, with everything he had. He loved to preach, drink Yoohoo and Pepsi; his snacks; soap opera conversations; with his mother and cousin and weekly conversations with his brother, about World Wrestling Entertainment Smack Down!

John met and married Sonja in April 2009, where he gained not only her love, but the love and respect of her two children, Jahara and Mason, and a host of brothers and sisters, known as the true *Meet the Browns* Family. His home church was Allen Chapel AME.  John Pastored St. Matthews Church in Weldon, for three years. The last ten years of Johns* life was spent in Tennessee, along-side his wife in the pulpit of Winters Chapel AME Church.  One of the hardest things for Rev. John to do was give up preaching. John loved to preach and Pastor but his health would no longer allow him to carry out his calling. However, he was still very active and in Good Standing with the African Methodist Episcopal Church, under the leadership of Bishop Jeffrey Nathaniel Leath III, prelate of the 13th Episcopal District and Elder Troy Merritt of the Nashville District.

John W. Deloatch Jr, is survived by his wife, Sonja Vanetta Brown Deloatch of their home in TN; their children, John W. Deloatch III 'Trey' of Durham, NC, Jahara S.Q. Davis of Charlotte, NC,  Dominica N. Deloatch of Greensboro, NC and Mason S.E. Davis  of Murfreesboro, TN); three grandchildren, Carter S.J. Haymon, Derrick C. Freeman and Davis E.L. Haymon; his mother, Ola M. Deloatch of  of Jackson, NC; his siblings, Douglas (Cheryl) Deloatch of Dallas, TX and Johnetta (William) Tate of Winston Salem, NC; sisters and brothers, Gail (Roger) Ligon and Arthur Calvin Brown II both of TN; John Patrick Brown and Vincent De-Paul (Brenda) Brown, Lina Denise Brown, and Angela Z. Brown all of GA; a host of aunts and great aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, who have traveled near and far.
