Roy Edwards, was born April 15, 1947, in Jackson North Carolina, to the late James Ernest and Mary Lou Deloatch Edwards.  He was educated in the Northampton County Public School System. He relocated in 1970, where he worked to help provide for his family. He began working at Wonder Bread Bakery in Jamaica, New York, then soon started his own landscaping business.  In 1981, he began his career at the New York City Department of Sanitation in 1981, retiring with over 25 years of service.  He was a dedicated member of the DSNY African Retiree Society.

Roy was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.  He joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Jackson, NC, at an early and remained a member until his death.  During his time in New York, he faithfully worshipped the Lord at Calvary A.M.E. Zion Church and St. Paul's United Methodist Church, both in Jamaica, NY.

Roy was humble, strong, supportive father, brother, uncle, dear friend, father figure, teacher and motivator.  He touched everyone who came across his path in such an unexplainable way.   He was always willing to lend out his hand to help others without hesitation and never asked for anything in return.  He had that type of humor and smile that would brighten up each and every day.  He was truly one of a kind and will certainly be missed.

He was called from labor to reward on November 16, 2017.  He was preceded in death by his parents, only sister, Christine, his brothers, James Ernest, Carnell, Fennell and Troy (twin brother). Left to survive and cherish his precious memory:  his devoted daughter, Shawn Renee Edwards of Hollis, NY; his bother, Alphonza (Phyllis) Edwards of Conway, NC; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Edwards of Rich Square, NC; his cherished nieces and nephews, Angella, Veronica, Ashley, Arnisha, Alijinar and James Jr; his aunts, Rebecca Diggs of Baltimore, MD and Florine of Woodland, NC; one uncle, John Lewis of Kingston, NC; his God-children, Matthew and Brianna; devoted friends, George Murray, Hazel Holmes and Elaine Reid and Bob (Thelma) Liley; a host of cousins and friends.
