Joseph Wilson Obituary

Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me!

And may there be no moaning of the bar,  When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam,

When that which drew from out the boundless deep, Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark!

And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place,

The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face,

When I have crossed the bar.

Joseph Wilson, a cherished member of the Seaboard, North Carolina community, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024. Born in Jackson, North Carolina, Joseph was the youngest among his eight siblings. He proudly graduated from Northampton County High School and found his calling in the culinary arts, where cooking became both his passion and his profession.

Beyond the kitchen, Joseph found solace in the simplicity of life’s pleasures. Fishing, grilling, and quality time with loved ones filled his days with joy. A dedicated fan of the Washington Commanders, formerly known as the Washington Redskins, Joseph’s enthusiasm for football was evident through his adorned hats, jackets, and jerseys.

Known for his infectious laughter and a repertoire of jokes, Joseph’s favorite punchline was always, “It was funny to me.” He delighted in organizing his own birthday celebrations each year, embracing every opportunity for merriment. Music was his muse, whether singing, dancing, or playing instruments, and he shared his zest for life generously with others.

Joseph’s kindness knew no bounds. Rooted in his faith since childhood, he lived by the principle of helping and accepting others unconditionally. Whether extending a hand to neighbors or serving his community, Joseph’s spirit of compassion touched many lives.

Joseph was preceded in death by his fathers, Wilbert Wilson and Melton ‘Pops’ Brown, Sr. and a brother, Melton Brown, Jr. He is survived by: his mother, Clara Wilson, and leaves a legacy cherished by his two stepdaughters, Katrina Chapman (Tommy) and Latisha Arrington, as well as his brother, William Brown (Shirley), and five sisters, Barbara Brown (Larry), Doris Bynum (James), Antionette Jennings (Winston), Bonita Wilson, and Patricia Mitchell. His memory is further treasured by his granddaughter, Ahmya Greene; grandson, Ahmaad Greene, and great-grandson, Ka’marii James. Joseph is also remembered fondly by his two aunts, Mildred Dolberry (Connolly) and Stella Long; his uncles, William Turner (Essie) and James Wilson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His two beloved fur babies, Brandi and Bear, also mourn his passing.

In remembrance of Joseph Wilson, let us honor his legacy by spreading kindness, laughter, and love, just as he did throughout his remarkable life.
