Edward L. Goode, Sr.

Edward L. Goode, 77, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and a native of Northampton County, North Carolina, departed this earthly on Wednesday, February 14, 2018.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1940 to the late Albert and Rozelar Goode in Seaboard, N.C. He was the last of seven siblings.

He was educated at Coates Elementary School located in Seaboard and Tilden Middle School in Philadelphia. He subsequently received his GED.

In April 1954 he joined the First Baptist Church with three of his siblings when his mother took them by the hands and said “We are joining church.” He later became a member of 59th Street Baptist Church, The Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, and the Church of Christian Compassion.

His employment history includes Louis Sherman Box Factory, IBM, Amtrak, Homewood Suites, and for a brief period the First Baptist Church of Paschall.

At the young age of eighteen, he married Esther Moore and from this union six children were born: Edward II, Timothy, Sarah, Lena, Peter and Dewitt. In 1983 he married his second wife, Gwen Cash, who preceded him in death. Then on September 12, 1992, he married Betty J. English who was his loving and faithful companion until death.

Goode loved his children and grandchildren, and treated those from his blended families as his own. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking long car trips to his birth place in North Carolina. He could spend hours and hours watching western movies and sports on television. Animals held a special place in his heart. In his early adult years, he was an active community worker on his block and could always be depended on by his neighbors.

Three siblings and a grandson preceded him in death: Mamie Goode Ellis, Mary Goode Porter, James Goode and his grandson Timothy II.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife Betty, six children, Edward II, Timothy (Pamela), Sarah, Lena, Peter, and Dewitt (Teri); sixteen grandchildren, Edward III, Camonta, Octavius, Cameron, Shia, Lionel, Jenee, Karinn, Tiara, Billy Williams, Marcel McMillan, Peter Jr., Joshua, Jay, Taniah, and Natesha; fourteen great grandchildren, Camonta II, Oshnae, Darrell, MaKayla, Milani, Talia, Cayden, Jysir, Kara, Chantha Williams, Navid Williams, Jada McMillan, Autumn Marie, and Carter English; five step-children, Dwayne Cash, Derrick Cash, Dan’l Cash, Gary English and Yvette English; six step-grandchildren, Joshua English, Brooklynne English, Niliyyah English, Tejane English, Shaniyah English and Stosha English; three brothers, Alvestus, Aaron Lee and W. Wilson Sr.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and special friends.
