Agnes Mixon Obituary

Agnes Delois High Mixon, daughter of the late Thomas Peter High, Sr. and Agnes Easter High, began her journey through life on Saturday, April 29, 1950 in Roanoke Rapids (Halifax County), North Carolina.

Lois, as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was educated in the Northampton County Public School System; graduating from Gumberry High School, Class of 1968. After graduation, she ventured off to Connecticut, where she worked for Stamford Hospital, until her retirement. While there, Lois matriculated at Stamford Data Processing School, completing her course studies on October 28, 1970.

While working at Stamford Hospital, Lois met the love of her life, William James Mixon, Sr. They were united in Holy Matrimony in October 1989, at none other than the Jerusalem Baptist Church, Emporia, Virginia. They both fellowshipped at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Upon their retirement, Will and Lois relocated to Gaston, North Carolina, where they would live their lives like it’s golden. They shared thirty-one years of marital bliss, until the Lord call Will home in December 2020.

Lois was a beautiful person, both internally and externally. She possessed a charming smile and a pleasant personality. All accompanied by a great fashion sense. Lois loved to dress! She was a lady of many hats. She literally owned many hats; to adorned her elegant suits, stunning dresses, dazzling purses and admirable shoes. Lois always made a fashion statement! She loved to shop, cook, read, do puzzles, tend to her flower garden, watch game shows on television and most of all, attend church services.

As a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, Lois was a vital part of the Pastor’s Aide Ministry and Missionary Ministry. During the covid-19 pandemic, she was very actively involved in visiting and delivering food items to the sick and shut-in within her community.

She's in the sun, the wind, the rain, she's in the air you breathe with every breath you take. She sings a song of hope and cheer, there's no more pain, no more fear. You'll see her in the clouds above, hear her whisper words of love, you'll be together before long, until then listen for her song. On the morning of Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023; while in the care of ECU Health North Hospital, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, God in his infinite wisdom, released our dear loved one from the cares and sufferings of this present time, granting her eternal rest and peace. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Will, Lois was preceded in death by: her siblings, Mary L. High, Shirley H. Broady, Juanita H. Wilson, Robert High, Sr., Arthur Hicks and Russell Williams; one sister-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

Cherished memories shall forever remain in the hearts of: her children-at-heart, Jacqueline Mixon and William J. Mixon, Jr. both of Connecticut and Kenneth Mixon (Corrinne) of Georgia; three generations of grandchildren-at-heart; her siblings, Thomas P. High, Jr. (Nathelia) of Mount Rainier, Maryland, Willie Lee High (Rosa) of Gaston, North Carolina and Carolyn H. Carter (Solomon) of Littleton, North Carolina; two goddaughters, Rashida and Genesis; two loving friends, Della Goldsberry of Lawrenceville, Virginia and Eunice Scott, devoted cousin, Dora King; devoted cosmetologist and friend, Melvin King all of Gaston, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
