Angela Stewart Obituary

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace

I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

- John 14:27 NLT

Angela Burina Powell Stewart, affectionately known as “Angie,” was born on Monday, March 4th, 1963, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Vernon Anderson and Celestine Powell Edwards Newsome. She was educated in the Northampton County Public School System and later furthered her studies at Halifax Community College in Weldon, North Carolina, where she earned her Associate Degree. Early in life, Angela accepted Christ and became a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, North Carolina, where she grew in faith and fellowship.

Angela was known for her compassionate spirit and dedication to serving others. Over the years, she was employed with Perdue Farms and Reser’s Fine Foods. Her true calling was serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Interim HealthCare. Her love for people and nurturing nature made her a comforting presence to those in her care. Angela found joy in life’s simple pleasures— solving word search puzzles and playing games on her iPad; traveling; and taking peaceful drives through her rural community. She especially enjoyed shopping trips to Walmart, often bringing back more than just items—she brought back stories and smiles. Angie’s radiant personality, warm smile, and impeccable sense of style were her trademarks. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved, never meeting a stranger along her path.

In March 1998, Angela was joined in holy matrimony to Charles Stewart, and together they built a loving home centered on faith, family, and devotion. Their union was blessed with the birth of their son, Charles Jr., who quickly became the joy of her life. Angela cherished motherhood deeply, and nothing brought her more happiness than caring for her son, her husband, and their household. She was a strong and selfless mother who offered unwavering support, especially during her son’s time in California, always going the extra mile to ensure his needs were met. Her love knew no bounds—she was the heart of her home and the light of her family.

On Tuesday, September 16th, 2025, after a brief illness, Angela peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest. She is now reunited with her parents and all those who have gone before her. Though her time with us feels far too short, her legacy of love, kindness, and joy will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her. As Maya Angelou once wrote, “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” Angela lived a life full of that very love—boundless, generous, and enduring. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted husband, Charles Stewart, Sr. of the home; her beloved son, Charles Stewart, Jr. of Orange County, California; and her siblings, Johnny Edwards, Timothy Edwards, and Sandra Edwards, all of Greenville, North Carolina. Also mourning her loss are her sisters-at-heart, Kereece Jones of Brooklyn, New York; Gloria Green of Rich Square, North Carolina; and Toni Hux of Weldon, North Carolina; a special niece-in-law, Sandra Miller of Forestville, Maryland; and two brothers-in-law, Cornell Stewart (Dora) of Landover, Maryland, and Chester Stewart of Greensboro, North Carolina. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends also remain to celebrate her life and carry forward her memory.

Angela’s presence here on earth will be deeply missed. Her heart was a gift to us all—gentle, generous, and overflowing with love. As long as there is memory, Angela will live on. “Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on. Cherished memories never fade, because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart—for as long as there is memory, Angela will live on in our hearts.”
