Remembering ‘Homebrew’…
Weep not for me though I am gone, Into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long, Upon my soul’s sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul’s at rest, There is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed, For all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not, The fear now all is gone.
Put now these things out of your thoughts, In your memory I live on.
Remember not the strife. Please do not dwell upon my death,
But celebrate my life.
Today we pause to pay tribute to the life, love and spirit of Anthony Irvin Jordan, who was a loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. Although his time on earth seemed all too brief, Anthony’s jovial spirit and vibrant personality has touched the lives of many within his community.
‘Homebrew’ as he was affectionately called by his loving family and friends, was born on Monday, August 9, 1971 in Jackson, North Carolina to the parentage of the late Collie Jordan and Shirley Jean ‘Tootsie’ Artis Jordan. He was educated in the Northampton County Public School System, graduating from Northampton County High School - East; Class of 1989.
As life progressed, ‘Homebrew’ became gainfully employed with the Halifax Regional Medical Center’s Environmental Health Services Department. He was a dedicated employee until his health declined. His employment was not viewed as mere work, but as a place where he could be himself and embrace those around him with love. It was there where he would give words of inspiration, share his funniest jokes and ensure his fellow co-workers came to work; all while serving his community.
‘Homebrew’ loved his family and cherished those times spent together; especially at those family cookouts. He was an avid University of North Carolina Tarheels fan and a dieheart Dallas Cowboys fan! He enjoyed watching “his teams” play and would always cheer them on - “Win, lose or tie, I’ll be a Dallas Cowboys fan ‘til I die!”
Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay… Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey is quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord. On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, while in the comfort of his home, ‘Homebrew’ peacefully transitioned from this earthly life, unto life eternal.
As we pass him to God’s keeping, treasured memories of pure love and affection will remain with: his siblings, Jesse 'Duke' Artis of Newport News, Virginia, Cathy 'Kate' Artis and Michael 'Mike' Artis both of the home, Charles Jordan, Sr. (Sharon) of Durham, North Carolina and Pamela 'Pam' Mason (Jesse) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; his special aunts and uncles, Catherine Artis, Josephine A. Faison, Ola Mae Deloatch and James Arthur Odom, Jr. (Doris) all of Jackson, North Carolina, Coley Artis (Jeanette) of Hyattsville, Maryland and Joe Wilson Artis (Gwen) of Jonesboro, Georgia; his nieces and nephews, Letisha Brown, Tyvon Artis, Andre Jones, Brandon Artis, Keaun Mason, JaQuan Mason, Sr., Jelisha Mason and Charles Jordan, Jr.; four great-nieces; five great-nephews; a special cousin, who he loved dearly, Stacy L. Faison; a host of cousins and friends.
