Arthur 'Mouse' Jacobs Obituary

Today, we pause to honor and reflect on the life and legacy of Arthur Jacobs, affectionately known as “Mouse” by his loving family and friends. Arthur was a devoted brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Known for his kind heart and strong work ethic, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially fishing and riding his moped.

Arthur was born on Friday, March 10th, 1950, in Rich Square, North Carolina, to the late Wilson and Lena Mae Jacobs Whitaker. He was educated in the public school systems of Bertie and Northampton Counties. At an early age, he was baptized and became a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Rich Square, where he united in Christian fellowship.

A hardworking man throughout his life, Arthur began working at a young age and was employed for many years as a painter at the Tarheel Casket Company in Woodland, North Carolina, until the business closed. His dedication and reliability were admired by all who worked alongside him.

On Tuesday, July 15th, 2025, while resting peacefully in the comfort of his home, Arthur was called to his eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers—Pernell, Eugene, and James Whitaker—and one sister, Christine Boone.

Arthur’s memory will forever be cherished by his siblings: Samuel (Carolyn) Wilkins of Norfolk, Virginia; Wilson (Gloria) Whitaker of Knightdale, North Carolina; Donald Whitaker of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; Thomas Whitaker of Jackson, North Carolina; Ola Cunningham of Knightdale, North Carolina; Minnie Jones of Knightdale, North Carolina; and Mary (Larry) Boone of Rich Square, North Carolina. He is also survived by one uncle, Bob Allen Jacobs of Paterson, New Jersey, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will always remember his generous spirit, warm smile, and loving nature.

Though Arthur has departed this earthly life, the love he gave and the life he lived will continue to inspire all those blessed to have known him.
