Aubrey Patterson Obituary

On Monday, May 27, 2957, Aubrey Reni’ Patterson, was born to the parentage of the late James Alexander Patterson and Thelma Deloatch Taylor in Norfolk, Virginia.

Aubrey was educated in the Northampton County Public School System; graduating from Northampton County High School - Class of 1975. He matriculated at the University of Kentucky. After which, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country from November 9, 1976 to November 7, 1980, before being Honorably Discharged. He also served as an Army Reservist. During his service to his country, Aubrey received several authorized decorations and awards, including: Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge with M16 Rifle Bar, Marksman Badge with Hand Grenade Bar, Expert Badge with .45 Caliber Pistol Bar and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon.

For quite some time, Aubrey was employed with JP Stevens Textiles Mill of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. At which time, he was furthering his education by attending Halifax Community College, Weldon, North Carolina. He later became employed with Safeway Security. In 1999, Aubrey became gainfully employed with the Greensville Correctional Center, Jarratt, Virginia, serving for over 22 years, until his recent retirement on September 1, 2022.

Aubrey was blessed with his daughter, Alexandrea, from a previous marriage. In 1994, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Mary Boone. This union was blessed with one daughter, Andrea Renee. Aubrey loved to create recipes and prepare tasty dishes. In addition, he enjoyed caring for and propagating plants, landscaping and beautifying his home. Aubrey also dabbled in Art and photography. He has made advertisements and book illustrations for individuals within his community and photo submissions to the Daily Herald Newspaper.

Early in life, Aubrey accepted Christ and joined Allen A. M. E. Church, Jackson, North Carolina. He loved attending church, and studying the word of God. He was a member of the Male Chorus and Gospel Chorus. Aubrey took great pride in staying in uniform, i.e Military, Security, Police officer, Corrections officer, etc. He worked hard to provide for his family. He was always supportive of and entertaining all the children who crossed his path. He would spend quality time with them while camping, playing frisbee, mudslinging, flying kites, etc.

On Sunday, March 12, 2023 Aubrey departed life’s journey and entered into eternal rest. In addition to his loving parents, he was preceded in death by: his brother, Gerald Lynn Taylor and two brothers-at-heart, Samuel Taylor and Bennett McCoy Taylor.
