And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no
more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more
pain: for the former things are passed away. ~ Revelation 21: 4
Beatrice “Bea” Greene Jefferson was born on December 23rd, 1938, in Jackson, North Carolina, to the late Lillie Mae and John Wiley Greene. She peacefully departed this life on Sunday, August 25th, 2024, at ECU Health North Hospital, succumbing to chronic kidney failure.
Bea received her education in Northampton County and later began a dedicated career at Georgia Pacific, where she worked for 20 years. After retiring, her strong work ethic led her back into the workforce at JW Faison Senior Center, where she continued to serve until her health no longer permitted. A devout Christian, Bea was an active member of Revelle Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the usher ministry until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Lillie Mae Greene; father, John Wiley Greene; husband, William Jefferson; sister, Hattie Belle Greene; brothers, Archie and John Risper; and cherished grandchildren, Andrew Greene, Jr. and Natarsha Greene.
Bea leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: two devoted sisters, Mae Belle Taylor and Juanita Majette; seven children, Gloria Alston (Horace), Andrew Greene, Sr., James Greene (Anne), Cathy James (Rev. Glenn), Robert Greene (Shirley), William Jefferson Jr., and Craig Jefferson (Reagan). She was also a proud grandmother to 24 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will cherish her memory.
Bea was known for her strength, independence, and the fullness of life she embraced. Although, she didn’t always have everything she wanted, she made the best of what she had and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her daily routine included heartfelt phone conversations with her sisters, friends, and other family members, watching Pastor Bill Winfrey on television, and savoring her beloved Dr. Pepper. Bea’s home was always open to all, and she generously shared her love, support, and her famous applesauce cake with anyone who crossed her threshold.
Her life was a testament to resilience, faith, and unconditional love. Bea’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
