Bishop Derrick Parker Obituary

Well Done, Good & Faithful Servant

...thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things:

enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

~ Matthew 25: 23

Bishop Derrick Lewis Parker,  the son of James H. Parker and Lula Garner Boone was born December 30, 1978. He obtained his education through the Northampton County Public School system. Thereafter, he pursued and completed various programs and training certifications.

Derrick accepted Christ at a very young age at New Jerusalem Holiness Church under the leadership of the late, Pastor Rosa Banks. He admired some of the powerful leaders he grew up around in the Apostolic Faith Church of Giving Grace ministry.

In 2020, he was ordained as Bishop Elect Parker at Perfecting Saints of Giving Grace Fellowship Church in Virginia.

Derrick was known as a very talented and gifted musician and singer. His passion for drums began at the age of 4 where he would beat on pots, pans, and anything else he could use to create a beat. He later knew he wanted to follow his big brother's foot steps, the late Samuel Parker. He played drums for the local church and became the drummer for the group, “The Mighty Bells of Joy” at age 11. He since played for many churches and choirs. He also joined the band at his school and was a “Beast on the Quads.” His passion proved him to be the best on percussion. Throughout his journey he continued to play drums and even started playing the keyboard, organ, and guitar.

Derrick was not only musically talented, but he also became a great baker. He would make some of the best desserts. He recently started his own business, “D.L. Parker Gourmet and Sweets.” He loved to bake his delicious pound and coconut cakes, sweet potato pies, and banana pudding.

He loved God and was a very faithful servant. He was an excellent man of God. To know Derrick was to love him. He showed us how to live a genuine caring life. He wanted the best for everyone and was always encouraging everyone he knew. He would give little life nuggets and quotes every day and was not ashamed to post his motivational quotes on social media. He was going to entertain you no matter what. There was no way you could resist his contagious smile and laugh.

He was a family man and even took his mother to her first prom in 2013. He truly loved his wife, mother, and children very dearly.

Derrick leaves to cherish his loving memories his devoted wife, Aurelia Parker; his one and only sweet daughter, Lashae Parker;  his sons, Kevin and Anthony Parker all of Virginia; his father, James Parker of Florida; his mother, Lula Garner Boone of North Carolina; mother-in-law, Patricia Scott of North Carolina; three sisters, Michelle Cooper of Florida, Mary Palmer of North Carolina and Angela Hall of Florida; a sister-in-law, Kimbly Edmonson of North Carolina; great-uncle, Thomas Garner; uncles, Wesley Reed, Clyde Parker, John Arthur Parker, Herman Parker and  Eugene Parker; aunts; Lorraine Kelly, Ethel Williams, Betty Kee, Brenda Parker and Evelyn Jeffress; nephews, Dashae, Sami (Dela) and Jabari; nieces, Dernecia (Phatty), Vermecia (Annt), Symaria (Mari), Quanza, Laney and Liyah; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, loving cousins and friends.

He especially loved and admired his aunt, Lorraine, Pastor Kelly, Aunt Betty Mae and Hattie P. Broady.

Bishop Parker is now reunited with his brother, Sammy. May you both rest in peace and have as many jam sessions as you so desire in your reunion.
