Brenda Rogers Obituary

The Life & Legacy of Queen Mother & Earth

“Queenology: Being a QUEEN means, I stand up for myself and my beliefs. I stand up for those I love. I speak my mind. I think my own thoughts and do things my way. I won’t compromise what’s in my heart. I live my life my way. I won’t allow anyone to step on me. I refuse to tolerate injustice. It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be me!”

Brenda Flythe Rogers, was born on Wednesday, August 26th, 1964 in the District of Columbia to the parentage of the late Ernest Lee Flythe and Gladys Harris Flythe.

Brenda attended the Washington DC School System, where she ran track and qualified to compete in the Olympics. At the age of 13, she and her family relocated to Norfolk, Virginia, where she graduated from the Norfolk Public School System.

Brenda was blessed with three children. However, she was a mother-at-heart to many of the children in the family and neighborhood. Inheriting many traits from her mother, Brenda loved her family with all of her heart. Spending quality time with those she loved brought her great joy; especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She providing a listening ear and did not judge anyone; always giving good, sound advice.

As life progressed, Brenda met Maurice O. Rogers. They were married on March 22nd, 1998. Together, they made their home in Margarettsville, North Carolina. As a wife, mother and grandmother, she loved to cook. She was best known for her macaroni & tuna salad, chicken & dumplings, liver & rice and homemade yeast rolls; even though they were late to every event. Oh, and how can we forget her year old gravy?

Brenda loved the Christmas season. She was sure to display her traditional colored lights and sing Christmas carols, starting the day after Thanksgiving. She hosted some of the best annual holiday gatherings in her neighborhood. In addition, she found pleasure in watching court television shows and caring for her dogs. She was a self-taught veterinarian, being an avid lover of animals; which led her to becoming gainfully employed with Carrolls Food, as a Lead Breeder.

In February 2023, Brenda’s health began to decline. However, she remained positive and never complained, always chanting, “I’m Good”. On Monday, September 18th, 2023, Brenda peacefully departed this earthly life; while in the care of ECU Medical Center, Greenville, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. She is now reunited with her loving parents, Ernest & Gladys; beloved husband, Maurice and many other relatives who have gone on before.

Our family is a circle of strength and love, with every birth and every union, the circle will grow, every joy shared adds more love, every crisis faced together, makes the circle stronger. Cherished memories of her love, caring and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of: three children, Latisha Pitts (Darnell) of Chester, Virginia, Alicia Flythe of Conway, North Carolina and Albreto Wilson, Jr. of the home; six grandchildren, Qua’dajah, Darnell 'Maalik', Sha’Kera, Danajja, Tishawn and Jabari; her siblings, Reverend Jacqueline Harris-Dickens (Reverend Doctor Carroll R. Dickens, Sr.), Curtis Flythe (Narda), Ernest 'Lorenzo' Flythe, Kimberly Flythe Newsome (Taiwan) and Ernest Garris (Mae); additional in-laws, Dorothy Brooks, Malinda Mason, Henry Stephenson, Jr. and Brenda Harris; a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
