Carolyn Ramsey Obituary

‘'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or

mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

~Revelations 21: 4

Carolyn Long Ramsey was born on Tuesday, May 21st, 1946, in Jackson, North Carolina, to the late Fred Harris and Ellen A. Long. She peacefully departed this earthly life on Thursday, September 4th, 2025. Carolyn was raised in Jackson, where she attended Gumberry High School and proudly played on the women’s basketball team. Her love for the game remained strong throughout her life—she could still put the ball in the hoop even when her health began to decline.

From an early age, Carolyn was a devoted member of Boones Chapel Church, where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior under the leadership of the beloved Reverend Kidd. She served faithfully as an usher and carried her faith with her throughout her life. Carolyn worked for over 25 years at Halifax Linen Company in Roanoke Rapids, and she took great pride in her job. Anytime she passed the old building, she would call out its name with pride. She later retired after marrying the late William “Cannonball” Ramsey.

Carolyn loved her small community and was known for her joy in cooking and eating out. She believed in sharing—if you were around at mealtime, you were going to eat too. She also loved being outdoors, taking care of her yard, and socializing from her front porch. Many friends and family remember the life advice and sayings she shared from that very spot.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer C. Vaughan; her son, Cary Long; her son-at-heart, Reginald Joel Ramsey; and her only brother, Irvin Long.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Wanda Crawley (Ed) of Durham, North Carolina; her son, Jeffrey C. Long (Joyce) of Pleasant Hill, North Carolina; her daughter-at-heart, Felicia L. Green; and her son-at-heart, Earl Wilson (Deanna), all of Aulander, North Carolina. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, her only sister, Kathy Long of Jackson, North Carolina, three nieces, extended relatives, and friends; and her devoted friend and caregiver, Ms. Lisa Motley.

Carolyn Ramsey will be remembered for her loving spirit, her strength, and the joy she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her.
