Castilla 'Cass' Godette, Jr. Obituary

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,

neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

~ Revelation 1: 4

With humble submission to the will of God, we pause to pay tribute to the life, legacy and servitude of Castilla Augustus Godette, Jr., who was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He was one who loved his family with all his heart, and not only nurtured his family, but touched the lives of all he came in contact with.

On Tuesday, September 21, 1971, in Morehead City, North Carolina, life was bestowed upon ‘Cass’, as he was born to the parentage of Castilla A. Godette, Sr. and Tonya Q. Godette. Being reared in the Godette residence, ‘Cass’ received his formal education while matriculating through the Carteret County Public Schools System, graduating from West Carteret High School.

‘Cass’, as he was affectionately called, accepted Christ at an early age and was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Beaufort, North Carolina. It was there that his love for God was deepened and spiritual gifts nurtured. While at Mt. Zion, he became a member of the male chorus. He loved to sing and praise the Lord. Two of his favorite songs were God’s Grace and The Blood.

As life progressed, ‘Cass’ met and married Ann Wallace Godette and through this union, he discovered true love.  He was adored by his wife of eight wonderful years. He enjoyed spending time with all of his family - especially playing with his grandkids. Accompanying his love for family, was an infectious smile that could easily brighten anyone’s day.

Prior to his health declining, he exemplified strong work ethics and became gainfully employed, as an expert mechanic, at several automobile repair shops - this was a lifetime career. He loved his job and was a faithful and hardworking employee that was known throughout the community as “the best of the best” when it came to fixing cars. He could fix anything but wanted everyone to know that he was definitely a “Chevy” man.  ‘Cass’, ‘Hammer’ and ‘Doc’ were all names that many learned to call him, as he was one who never met a stranger.

One of Cass’ most endearing traits was that he was a fun and loving person. He truly cherished his family and friends. His commitment to family extended to his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends alike. He willingly shared what he had, be it words of advice, jokes, visits, car repairs or food. ‘Cass’ always had a joke or funny story to tell. Whenever he was around there was never a dull moment, but always plenty of laughter - as he loved cracking jokes. His jovial spirit was accompanied by the ability to cook - which was one of his favorite pastimes. Many can recall the culmination of cookouts for the Godette Family Reunion, where he could be found frying fish and shrimp, grilling hamburgers and hotdogs, and cooking so much more. His tasty dishes tempted the palates of many - he loved to cook. Throughout the years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle with friends and could often be found give his children, nieces and nephews a ride. He absolutely loved riding his motorcycles.

Cass’ love for his family was unconditional and will be missed by all. Because of his outpouring kindness and service to his family and friends - God gave him favor...a family that loved and supported him...friends who cherished him and were ever present during his life.

Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay… Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey is quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the lord. On Monday, October 11, 2021, our beloved Castilla Augustus Godette, Jr. departed this earthly life surrounded by family and a few close friends, while in the care of Crystal Coast Hospice House of  Newport, North Carolina. He answered God’s solemn call to sweet eternal rest. He is now reunited with those who preceded him in death: his grandparents, uncles and aunts.

A million times we've needed you, a million times we've cried.  If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died.  In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, that no one could ever fill. Those left to cherish his memories are his: wife, Ann Wallace-Godette; children, Mariah N. Godette, Castilla T. Godette, Sr., Tameya T. Strayhorn, Josiah M. Felton, Janiyah K. Godette, Jhamari A. Godette and Jenessis R. Godette; son-at-heart, Christopher Jordan Britt, grandchildren, Castilla T. Godette, Jr., Raelynn N.
