Charles Phillips, affectionately known by many as “C-Block,” was born on Thursday, October 4th, 1956, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late David Lee Phillips and Bernice Gatling Phillips. On Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, Charles peacefully departed this earthly life while in the care of Scotland Manor Health Care Center in Scotland Neck, North Carolina.
Charles received his early education through the Northampton County School System. A hardworking and determined man, he began his career as a long-haul truck driver, skillfully navigating 18-wheelers across the highways. Later, he served the Town of Rich Square, North Carolina, in various capacities until health challenges led him to step away from formal employment. Even then, Charles remained active and purposeful, becoming known throughout the community as the dependable “neighborhood handyman.” His talent for working with his hands and his natural problem-solving spirit made him a trusted figure among friends and neighbors. And if he couldn’t fix something himself, he always knew just who to call.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service. He is survived by his daughters: Britannia J. Phillips of Rich Square, North Carolina; Synquis M. Roberts of Woodland, North Carolina; and his daughter-at-heart, Khadijah S. Ramsey (Keith) of Rich Square, North Carolina. He also leaves three cherished grandchildren: Daquan L. Boone and Briana B. Boone of Rich Square, North Carolina; and Sin'Cere H. Dickens of Atlanta, Georgia; as well as three beloved great-grandchildren: Delilah Boone, Ariel Boone, and Jeremiah Boone of Ahoskie, North Carolina.
Charles’s memory will also be forever held dear by his siblings: Beatrice Greatheart of Rich Square, North Carolina; Alease Wilkins of Rich Square, North Carolina; David Phillips of Rich Square, North Carolina; Darlis Phillips of Jackson, North Carolina; and Brenda Phillips of Rich Square, North Carolina. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends also mourn his passing.
He is now reunited in eternal rest with his parents, Bernice and David Phillips; his sisters: Irene Collins, Linda Phillips, Doris Phillips Coates, and Marion Phillips; his brother, Joseph Perry; nephews Joseph Phillips and Darrin Collins; and a special cousin, Quaneesha Phillips.
Charles “C-Block” Phillips will be remembered for his generosity, resilience, and unwavering spirit. His presence in the community, his devotion to family, and his willingness to lend a helping hand will never be forgotten.
