Memories are treasures no one can steal. Death is the heartache nothing can heal.
Some may forget you now that you are gone, But we shall remember you no matter how long.
Charlie Miles Jr. embarked on his life’s journey on Friday, August 18th, 1950, in Gaston (Northampton County), North Carolina, born to the late Charlie Miles, Sr. and Lottie Moody. He was the second youngest of six brothers and six sisters.
Fondly known as ‘Big Man’ to his cherished family and friends, Charlie grew up in Gaston and received his diploma from Gaston High School. An avid sports lover, he dreamt of becoming a professional basketball player. However, destiny had a different plan for him as he was drafted into the United States Army, enlisting on March 11th, 1971. Throughout his 22 years of Honorable Service, Charlie was stationed in various countries, including Korea and Germany. He was also deployed to Southwest Asia in Operation Desert Storm, earning accolades for his dedicated service. On March 31st, 1993, he retired as an E-7, Sergeant First Class.
Also known as ‘Unc Big Man’ and ‘Dad’, Charlie was always the life of the party. He had a passion for music, dance, and serious card games and dominoes that lasted until the early hours of the next day. Despite facing challenges in the latter part of his life, he persevered with a strong and zesty will to live life on his terms.
On Sunday, January 14th, 2024, under the attentive care of his eldest daughter, Amanda, Charlie peacefully departed this earthly life at the blessed age of 73 at the Coliseum Health & Rehabilitation Center located in Hampton, Virginia.
Charlie leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories as he is lovingly survived by: his son, Anthony ‘Poochie’ and daughter-in-law, Tracy Ingram; two daughters, Amanda Miles and Charlene, and son-in-law, Keon Pettiway; former spouse, Ida Miles; brother, Michael Powell (Carolyn). He is also remembered by twelve grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
