“Sad is the parting, no one can tell: So sudden on earth the sorrow fell,
The blow was hard, the shock severe; To part with one we love so dear.
Dearer still, as days depart; Our loved one’s memory will forever live within our hearts!”
CURTIS LEE PONTON, the oldest of five children, was born in Northampton County, North Carolina on Monday, July 29th, 1946 to the parentage of the late Elmo and Alma Ponton.
‘Bill’, as he was fondly called by his loving family and friends, was educated in the Northampton County Public Schools. In 1969, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his time of service to his country, he was awarded 6 medals before being Honorably Discharged in 1974. After his discharge, he returned home and became gainfully employed with Henry Ricks Farms of Seaboard, North Carolina, until his retirement. After which, he began enjoying his hobbies of hunting, fishing and mechanical work. Upon his special talents he made homemade grills. He was definitely a jack of all trades.
On Friday, September 29th, 2023, our dear loved one was called home to eternal rest. In addition to his loving parents, ‘Bill’ was preceded in death by: a son, Dexter Ponton; a brother, Robert Lee Ponton and his best friend, Larry S. Harris.
Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of: his wife, Loistine Joyner Ponton of the home; six children, Latashia (Rodney) Vincent of Boykins, Virginia, Kurtina (Michael) Jacobs of Greenville, North Carolina, Chiquita (Lamaine) Boone of Knightdale, North Carolina, Teknika Ponton of Greenville, North Carolina, Kamacia Ponton and Terrance Ponton both of the home; son-at-heart, Antwyan (Laquita) Taylor of Woodland, North Carolina; goddaughter, Sharon ‘Diane’ (Timothy) Person; ten grandchildren, Alyshia Hill, Depre’ Pebbles, Jr., Zaniyah Boone, Zynecia Jacobs, Zavion Boone, Amya Whitaker, Ameisha Whitaker, Akeem Jacobs, Kyrie Boone and Amar Porter; two sisters, Corrine Wheeler of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Mary (Nathaniel) Kee of Newport News, Virginia; one brother, Roscoe Ponton of Seaboard, North Carolina; mother-at-heart, Catherine Robertson; best friend, Samuel Sykes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
‘Bill’ was one of a kind. To know him, was to love him. He will be missed by all who know him.
