Obituary

“Remembering you is easy, we do it everyday,

Missing you is a heartache, which will never go away.”

Alvin Bernard Hill, son of the late Caesar Leander Hill and Geraldine ‘Jewel’ High Hill, was born on Saturday, February 12, 1949.

‘Boola’, as he was fondly called by his family and friends, was educated in Hampton, Virginia, where he attended the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind. While living there, he came to know Christ as his Lord and Savior. He returned to his roots and joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Most of his life was spent in Hampton, Virginia. So much so, he united in Christian Fellowship with Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Temple, where he was a vital part of the Deaf Ministry, serving as a Sign Language Interpreter. He was also an ordained Deacon. Deacon Hill held this ordination in very high regard, as he was well respected with his church, community and family.

As the rain drops became so vivid and the bright sunshine pierced through, the life and time of our beloved brother began anew. Alvin peacefully completed this chapter of life on Sunday, April 16, 2023; while he rested comfortably in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Our family is a circle of strength and love; with every birth and every union, the circle of love grows - every trial faced together makes the circle grow stronger. We who remain struck by the bitter pain of death, but are assured by the promise of God; that He would wipe all tears from our eyes are: his siblings, Joyce L. Hill of Skippers, Virginia, Dora Y. King (Glenford) of Gaston, North Carolina, Peggy J. Lundy (James) of Skippers, Virginia, Gail E. Robinson (Bobby) of Gaston, North Carolina, Sandy L. Hill (Ernell) of Skippers, Virginia, Melissa G. Powell and Archie L. Hill (Juanita) both of Weldon, North Carolina, Regina A. Ruffin (James) of Jonesboro, Georgia, Carmela H. Bunch (Roderick) of Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, Kimberly Hill of Rex, Georgia and Davin R. Hill of Macon, Georgia; an aunt, Earlene Mitchell of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; a devoted friend and brother-at-heart, James Singleton of Hampton, Virginia; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
