Deacon Claude Elmer Ford, a devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather, and faithful servant of God, was born on Saturday, July 20th, 1935, in Enfield, North Carolina. He was one of seven children born to the late Joe and Leory Crenshaw Ford. From an early age, Deacon Ford committed his life to Christ, beginning his spiritual journey at Smith Chapel Baptist Church in his hometown. In later years, he became a dedicated member of House of Prayer No. 3 in Halifax, North Carolina, where he served faithfully as a Deacon until his transition.
Deacon Ford received his formal education in the public schools of Halifax County. Guided by a strong sense of duty and honor, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving in the distinguished 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. His military service continued in the National Guard, where he rose to the position of Squad Leader with the Motor Platoon, concluding a commendable 24-year military career marked by leadership and commitment.
Following his service to his country, Deacon Ford pursued a variety of professional paths, ultimately finding purpose and fulfillment in his second career with the North Carolina Department of Correction. He faithfully served there for 20 years before retiring.
In his personal life, Deacon Ford was united in holy matrimony to the late Katie Arrington Ford, with whom he shared over 30 blessed years. From their union, three children were born and lovingly reared. In the later chapter of his life, he was again blessed in marriage to Hazel Person Ford. Together, they shared 24 beautiful years of love, companionship, and mutual devotion.
Deacon Ford was preceded in death by his six siblings—Curtis, Andrew, Joseph, Wilson, Margie, and Ethel—and by his son, Jerome Person. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, strength, and compassion. His memory will forever be treasured by his devoted wife Hazel; his children, Marcia Ford Williams (James), Claudette Ford Edwards, and Anthony Ford (Linda); as well as Vergel Readdy, Danny Person; and godson Linwood Thombs.
He is also survived by a host of beloved grandchildren: Eric Jones (Charisma), Lakesha Hedgepeth (Jerlendious), Aleitha Readdy, JaKatie Readdy, Jazmyn Williams Monteith, Whitney Williams, Britney Strayhorn, Quentin Person, and Xavier Person. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Eric Jr., Cairo, Kaitlyn, Jerlendious II, Jerlendious III, Kali’, Kai’lynn, Kais’lynn, Jaylee, Jordan, and Braylee; one sister-in-law, Carrie Garris, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
