Deacon James Lee Shearin, Jr.

Deacon James Lee Shearin, Jr., age 72, departed this life in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 21st, 2026. His passing has left his family deeply saddened as they reflect on a life filled with faith, love, hard work, and devotion to others.

Born on Sunday, October 11th, 1953, in Halifax County, North Carolina, Deacon James was the beloved son of the late James Lee Shearin, Sr. and Lillian Buffaloe Shearin. Throughout his life, he was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and cherished friend to many. He shared 47 years of unwavering love, friendship, and partnership with his devoted wife, Felicia Mitchell Shearin.

A man of deep and abiding faith, Deacon James gave his life to God and faithfully served as a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Seaboard, North Carolina. He was known for his integrity, humility, and servant’s heart, qualities that guided every aspect of his life and touched all who knew him.

Deacon James was hardworking and determined, building a successful career as an auto mechanic and proud owner of Shearin Used Cars. Known for his skilled hands and unmatched work ethic, he was always willing to help others through his craft. Outside of work, he found great joy in deer hunting, racing cars, and spending time at the race track, where his passion and vibrant spirit truly came alive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Shaunette M. Shearin and Tammy D. Debro; his brothers, Kenny Shearin and Derrick Shearin; and his sister-in-law, Gloria Rogers.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Felicia Mitchell Shearin; his children, James Shearin of Garysburg, North Carolina, Antione Shearin and wife Veola of Seaboard, North Carolina, Sherika Hunter of Suffolk, Virginia, Shonicka Debro and husband Victor Yaw of Orange, New Jersey, Crystal Shearin of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and Belinda Williams of Durham, North Carolina.

He is also survived by his brothers, Ernest Shearin and wife Susan of Richmond, Virginia, Jerome Shearin of Boykins, Virginia, Troy Shearin of Hopewell, Virginia, and Wydell Shearin of Richmond, Virginia; his sisters, Brenda Hooker of Richmond, Virginia, Denise Vauters of Richmond, Virginia, Sondra Shearin of Herndon, North Carolina, and Yolanda McCoy and husband Kevin of Richmond, Virginia; and his sisters-in-law, Patrina Deloatch and husband Timothy of Conway, North Carolina, Evangeline Mitchell of Conway, North Carolina, and Telicia Whitehead and husband Eric of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Deacon James will also be lovingly remembered by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply. He also leaves behind his special lifelong friend, George Majette, Sr., whose bond of friendship with him remained strong throughout the years.
