“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have
a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.”
~ II Corinthians 5:1
Deaconess Annie Ruth Deloatch Burnette was born on Wednesday, January 1st, 1941, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Matt and Annie Tilmon Newsome. She was a woman whose life reflected compassion, grace, and unwavering love for others. Annie Ruth was widely known for her caring spirit and selfless heart. There was never a need too great nor a burden too heavy when it came to helping those around her. Her kindness, generosity, and warm presence touched countless lives and left an enduring legacy upon everyone blessed to know her.
Committed to both education and service, Annie Ruth graduated from Halifax Community College and later pursued further studies in nursing. She faithfully utilized her nursing degree throughout her distinguished career at Hampton Woods Health & Rehabilitation Center - Jackson, North Carolina, where she was proudly among the first employees hired when the facility opened. Her dedication, professionalism, and compassionate care made a lasting impact on both her coworkers and the many patients she served. Even after her retirement from Hampton Woods her passion for caring for others continued through her work with Interim Health Care.
At an early age, Annie Ruth accepted Christ and joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful and devoted servant throughout her life. She joyfully served in numerous capacities within the church, including as a Sunday School teacher and choir member, before later being ordained as a Deaconess. Her commitment to ministry and service exemplified true servant leadership. Deaconess Annie Ruth’s walk with God was not simply spoken through words, but demonstrated daily through her actions, humility, steadfast faith, and unwavering devotion to serving others.
On Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at home, Annie Ruth peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to her eternal resting place, “a building not made with hands.” In her final moments, the words of II Timothy 4:6-8 beautifully reflected the life she lived: “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing".
Though her earthly labor has ceased, her faithful works, loving spirit, and godly example will continue to speak for generations to come. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Horace Burnette; her parents, Matt and Annie Newsome; her son, Earthern M. Deloatch; her loving daughter, Angela Deloatch Lundy; her grandson, Hugh Byrd, Jr.; her son-in-law, Richard Day; and her two brothers, Lindsay Newsome and Melvin Tilmon.
Annie Ruth’s life was filled with loving deeds and thoughtful acts of kindness. Her family will forever treasure the love she so freely gave. Though she is no longer physically present, her memory will remain forever etched in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted children: Anderson Deloatch, Jr. (Carolyn), Elsie Barnes (Jesse), Madeline Byrd (Hugh), Barbie Day, and Imman Deloatch.
She also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Omaroon Deloatch, Bobby Lamont Deloatch, Tammy Barnes, Laquita Barnes-Curry (Melvin), Jesse Barnes, Jr., Tomekia N. Deloatch, Angelo Deloatch, and Tony Powell; thirteen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren: her siblings Carrie Parker-Hines, John Lewis Newsome (Phyllis), Frances Newsome, Robert Lee Newsome (Gwendolyn), and Virginia Newsome and a host of loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, church family members, and dear friends.
