For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
~ II Timothy 4: 6 -8
Bertha Epps Everett, daughter of the late Claire Epps and Bertha Avent was born on Wednesday, June 16, 1937 in Northampton County, North Carolina.
Bertha was educated in the Northampton County School System. Early in life, she accepted Christ and became a member of the Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Garysburg, North Carolina, she was a faithful member until her health declined. “The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. (Titus 2: 3-5) Bertha’s fear of God, foresight, encouragement, care for others and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth. She proudly served as a member of Roanoke Salem’s Deaconess Ministry. In addition, she was a faithful attendee of the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, alongside her husband, Ralph Everett, where she participated in Sunday School and many other capacities.
“When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.” On Friday, September 23, 2022; God in His infinite wisdom, lifted Bertha Epps Everett from this world of sin, sorrow and pain to a place of eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ralph and son, Nathaniel Everett.
Sleep on, beloved, sleep, and take thy rest; Lay down thy head upon the Saviour’s Breast; We love thee well, but Jesus loves thee best. Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by a host of loving nieces and nephews, including Jeanette Epps and Gloria Rooks both of Garysburg, North Carolina, who were her caregivers; children at heart, Sheila Smith and Terry Robinson both of Portsmouth, Virginia and Tyrone Robinson of San Diego, California; brother-in-law, Marco Everett of Margarettsville, North Carolina; close friends, Catherine Patrus, Iris Britt and Carrie Ward all of Jackson, North Carolina, James & Catherine Dupree of Garysburg, North Carolina and Carolyn Robinson of Seaboard, North Carolina.
