Deaconess Catherine Dupree Obituary

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,

I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is

laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord,

the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only,

but unto all them also that love his appearing."

- II TIMOTHY 4: 7-8

Catherine Weaver Dupree, age 91, of Garysburg, North Carolina, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 27th, 2025, while in the compassionate care of Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Weldon, North Carolina.

Born on Sunday, October 7th, 1934 in Garysburg to the late Thomas and Louise Weaver, Catherine was one of three children blessed to this union. After graduating from Gumberry High School, she ventured to New York, where life’s journey led her to the love of her life, Deacon Willie James Dupree. Their meeting—inside a beauty shop—sparked a beautiful union, and on December 19th, 1959, they were joined in holy matrimony. Their bond was steadfast and unshakable, a true testament to enduring love that inspired all who knew them.

Catherine dedicated many years of service to Bellevue Hospital, where she worked as a nurse. Her commitment to caring for others extended far beyond her profession and was rooted in her deep faith. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Upon relocating to New York, she joined Caanan Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Deaconess for many years.

In 2001, Catherine and Willie returned home to Garysburg, settling once again in her family home. She immediately immersed herself in the life of the church and community. A devoted and active member, she served as treasurer of the Women’s Fellowship and was also involved in Noon Day Prayer, Pastor’s Aide, Birthday/Floral Ministry, Missionary Ministries, the Nurse’s Guild, and the Couple’s Ministry. Catherine never hesitated to extend a helping hand wherever needed. Her service was sincere, her faith unwavering, and her heart always open. She was truly a servant of God.

Catherine will be fondly remembered for her gentle, kind spirit, her warm and welcoming smile, and her generous heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Louise Weaver; her brother, Dement Weaver; her sister, Aubry Weaver Crowell; and her devoted husband, Willie James Dupree.

Deaconess Dupree leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her beloved niece Melvina Weaver of Centreville, Virginia; Robert Crowell of Washington, District of Columbia; Westley Weaver of Las Vegas, Nevada; Edward Crowell of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; and Shanice, Vanessa, Shawnita, Shante, William, and Jean Sykes, who affectionately referred to her as Ma Dupree. She also leaves her godson, Roosevelt Anderson, along with numerous other family members and friends whose lives were deeply touched by her presence and who will miss her profoundly.
