Obituary

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

~ II Timothy 4: 6 -8

Cornelia Clements Goode, daughter of the late Hattie Clements, began her journey through life on Saturday, March 15, 1916 in Northampton County, North Carolina.

During an era where there was limited access to education, Cornelia completed her 11th grade education through the Northampton County Public School System. Early in life, she professed her faith in Christ and was baptized at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Margarettsville, North Carolina. As life progressed, she united in Christian Fellowship with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Seaboard, North Carolina. She served both churches faithfully throughout the years. Cornelia always spoke very highly of her church families and was a dedicated member of the Culinary Arts Committee, Deaconess Ministry and Pastor’s Aide Ministry. She was a devoted Sunday School Teacher and choir member. Deaconess Goode was also a teacher for the Northampton County Sunday School Association and Neuse River Missionary Baptist Association.

In the course of her lifetime, Cornelia worked as a Domestic Engineer - a job she held with high regard and she took great pride in her work. In doing so, she had the opportunity to meet numerous families, with whom she would form a bond that would extend far beyond the compounds of her work. Her relationship with family, friends; membership with her church and community involvement sustained her.

When peace like a river, attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.” On Friday, August 4, 2023; while in the care of Northampton Nursing & Rehabilitation, Jackson, North Carolina, Deaconess Cornelia C. Goode, peacefully crossed over to be with her Heavenly Father. Her seeds are well-sown; her service on earth is complete, and she now experience the victory and triumph of eternal life. In addition to her mother and beloved husband, Lloyd Goode, Sr. she was preceded in death by a son Lloyd Goode, Jr.
