Delois Person Obituary

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death,

neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

~ Revelation 1: 4

With humble submission to the will of God, we pause to pay tribute to the life, love and legacy of Delois Johnson Person; who was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Delois began her journey through life on Wednesday, February 2, 1949 in Severn (Northampton County), North Carolina. She was born to the parentage of the late Ernest Johnson and Mary Jordan. She was educated in the Northampton County Public School System; graduating from Willis Hare High School, Pendleton, North Carolina. She further her studies at Paul D. Camp Community College, Franklin, Virginia and Saint Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, Virginia.

Early in life, Delois accepted Christ and united in Christian fellowship with the First Baptist Church of Severn, North Carolina. For many years, she was a devoted employee of the Virginia Department of Corrections at Deerfield Correctional Center, Capron, Virginia. After her retirement, she continued to enrich and shape the lives of others as a substitute teacher with Southampton County and City of Franklin Public Schools.

Delois was united in Holy Matrimony to Allen Person. They shared 37 years of marriage together, until his demise in 2017.

We little knew that day, God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, In death, we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home… On Saturday, March 5, 2022; our dear loved one, went home to be with the Lord; while in the care of Bon Secours Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Virginia.

You left us beautiful memories, Your love is still our guide. And although we cannot see you, You are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will link again. We who remain struck by the bitter pain of death, but are assured by the promise of God; that He would wipe all tears from our eyes: sons, Melvin Johnson of Boykins, Virginia, Antwon Person (Deneen) and granddaughter, Lauryn all of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two brothers, Sherman Jordan (Patrice) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Thurman Jordan of Atlanta, Georgia; four sisters, Nancy Drayton (Michael) and JoAnn Bowditch (Bernard) both of Savannah, Georgia, Barbara Wilson of Asheville, North Carolina and Ernestine Pickard (George) of Reidsville, North Carolina; mother-in-law, Alice Mitchell Person of Boykins, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Person (Debra) of Suffolk, Virginia and Melvin Person (Vanessa) of Pendleton, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Joyce Harris (Ira) of Margarettsville, North Carolina; a host of niece, nephews, relatives and friends.
