Detective Erin Fitchett Obituary

Detective Erin Oscar Fitchett was born on July 28, 1975 to Oscar and Mariah Fitchett in Brooklyn, New York. Erin was baptized at an early age at Rising Star Baptist Church, Branchville, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Fitchett and his younger sister, Farrah Fitchett.

Erin received a portion of his education in New York City, before relocating to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he graduated from Tallwood High School. After which, he enlisted in the United States Army and for a while, was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Unit and it was there he began to pursue his passion for boxing. Erin continued to box competitively, earning an impressive record. He won the Nationals and Golden Gloves.

Erin eventually returned to New York, where he joined the New York City Police Department. He worked his way through the ranks to become a Detective. In addition to his detective work, he was given the opportunity to provide personal security for politicians, entertainers and many other notables, who visited the City of New York. He gave of his time and talents, as a part of a police boxing program, designed to help various youth programs. Truly, he was one of NYPD’s finest!

Erin enjoyed traveling and visited many beautiful and exotic places. He was generous, kind-hearted and an ardent protector of those he loved and cared for. We will truly miss the ‘grin’, his quick-wit and his ability to find humor in just about anything. Erin was a grown man with a child like zeal. His legacy lives on through his family and friends to work hard, work smart, love hard and live life to the fullest.

Erin is survived by: his loving mother, Mariah Fitchett of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his beloved sister, Toinetta Adams; brother-in-law, Derrick Adams both of Virginia Beach, Virginia; his nieces and nephew, Shanyce Adams, Aliyah Adams and Devonne Adams all of New York; great-nieces and nephew, Jenelle Lynch, Skyler Brown and D’meir Adams, whom was his pride and joy, all of New York; paternal grandmother, Sarah Fitchett of Topping, Virginia; maternal grandmother, Mattie Turner of Branchville, Virginia; two beloved godchildren; a host aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
