Donald Vaughan, Sr. Obituary

Semper Fidelis

The tide recedes, but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand.

The sun goes down but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.

The music stops and yet it lingers on in sweet refrain.

For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains.

Today we pause to pay tribute to the life and legacy of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, Donald Louis Vaughan, Sr., who began his journey through life on Sunday, October 30, 1960. He was born in Jackson, (Northampton County) North Carolina to the parentage of Calvin L. Vaughan and Bettie Mae Harris Johnson.

Donald was educated in the Northampton County School System. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He was a very proud Marine, serving his country from May 30, 1979 to May 29, 1983. During this time of service, Donald earned four Meritorious Mast, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Star, The Marine Corp Expeditionary Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us ” (Hebrews 12: 1) Always diligent and loyal in everything he did, Donald had a big heart. He was very outgoing, remained positive throughout his lifetime and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what’s to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay… Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey is quicker, For some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, We’ll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord. On Saturday evening, November 14, 2020; Donald peacefully transitioned from this earthly life; while in the care of United Medical Center, Washington, DC.

“Though the clouds may hang over, there will be a brighter day. In that land, they call heaven, God shall wipe all tears away.” We who remain, struck by the bitter pain of death, but satisfied with the promise made by God, that he would wipe all tears from our eyes: his wife of 34 years, Jacqueline Vaughan; four children, Danielle Vaughan-Mauk, Donald L. Vaughan, II, Deanna Vaughan and Jocelyn Vaughan; ten grandchildren, his parents, Calvin L. Vaughan and Bettie Mae Johnson; his siblings, Delores Vaughan, Kenny Vaughan, Lewis ‘Mack’ Harrison and John Faison; his uncles, Joe, Eddie and Herbert Vaughan; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
