Dorothy Lee (Newsome) Edwards

It is with great sadness that our dear loved one, Mrs. Dorothy Lee Newsome Edwards, age 69, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020; while in the care of Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, North Carolina. 

Dorothy began her journey through life on Thursday, October 25, 1951 in Northampton County, North Carolina; as she was born to in the loving care  of the late MaCollie and Emma Lee Johnston Newsome.  She was educated in the Northampton County School System.   At an early age, Dorothy professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Zion Hill Baptist Church of Seaboard, North Carolina, where she faithfully served the Usher’s Ministry.  She later united in Christian Fellowship with Saint John A. M. E. Church of Conway, North Carolina.  

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by:  one sister, Margaret Pernell; one brother, Johnnie Mac Newsome and a nephew, Derrick Newsome.

Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of:  her husband, Percy Edwards, Jr. of the home; two daughters, Dianne Barber (Johnnie) of Seaboard,  North Carolina and Monica Long of Durham, North Carolina; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four sisters, Geraldine Williams of Seaboard, North Carolina, Rosa Marie Newsome of Margarettsville, North Carolina, Geneva Joyner of Jackson, North Carolina and Gladys Mallory of Lexington, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
