Earlene 'Lene' Joyner Obituary

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted…

All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

~ Ecclesiates 3:1, 2, 20

A TIME TO BE BORN:

On Wednesday, June 15, 1938, life was bestowed upon Earlene Jordan Joyner as she was born to the parentage of the late Raymond Jordan, Sr. and Geraldine Faison Jordan. Being reared in a Christian home, Earlene joined the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Margarettsville, North Carolina and was later baptized. It was there that her love for God was deepened and spiritual gifts nurtured. She was educated in the Northampton County Public School System.

A TIME TO LIVE:

‘Lene’, as she was affectionately called, was united in matrimony to Quient R. Joyner. She later relocated to Virginia, where she resided for more than 50 years. For many years, she was employed as a bus driver, with the Virginia Public School System. She also owned and operated a cab company. ‘Lene’ was a pass member of the Eastern Stars Scottish Rights.

‘Lene’ loved traveling, cooking, listening to music, dancing, playing cards, socializing with friends and spending quality time with her family. She was also known for her wittiness and keen sense of humor. During the summer months, you could often find her planning for the Jordan Family Reunion, where everyone was invited.

A TIME TO DIE:

On Thursday, April 7, 2022; while in the care of Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, Richmond, Virginia; God plucked a beautiful flower to add to his heavenly bouquet. ‘Lene’ was escorted to the gates of heaven by one of the angels to join those family members, who preceded her in death: her parents and two sisters, Christine Jordan and Mae Queen Jordan Knight.

A TIME TO REMEMBER:

"Our family is a circle of strength and love; with every birth and every union, the circle of love grows - every trial faced together makes the circle grow stronger." Her spirit lives and many sweet memories will forever remain in the hearts of: love one, Quient R. Joyner; her children, Joyce B. Freeman, Quinton J. (Deborah) Joyner, Janet M. Murray, Valerie L. Gales, Robin Joyner, Troy A. Joyner, Winslow Joyner, Angelo (Denise) Joyner, Gregory O. Joyner and Vincent (Gwendolyn) Joyner; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lois Jordan, Julia Flythe, Rebie Hansom and June Woodson (James); two brothers, Raymond Jordan, Jr. and Clarence M. Jordan; one aunt, Vivian F. Blount; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
