“If I can help somebody as I travel along, If I can help somebody in a word or a song
If I can help somebody from doing wrong, No, my living shall not be in vain”
Elder Betty Mae Parker Kee, beloved daughter of the late Clyde Parker, Sr. and Bettie Reed Parker, was born on Wednesday, October 3rd, 1951, in Jackson, North Carolina. Surrounded by love, she peacefully transitioned from this life on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, while in the care of ECU Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.
Elder Betty Mae was educated in the Northampton County Public School System and furthered her education at Halifax Community College, where she studied for two years. She later began her career as a Teacher Aide, where her nurturing spirit and commitment to education touched many lives.
Her life was a testament to faith and service. For over 64 years, Elder Betty Mae dedicated herself to the work of the church, becoming a pillar of spiritual strength and inspiration—especially to the youth. She served in many capacities, including musician, cook, preacher, teacher, and caregiver. She lovingly cared for the late Pastor Rosa Bank for many years. Her humility, wisdom, and generous heart endeared her to all who knew her.
A woman of many talents, Elder Betty Mae authored a book titled Elders Are Victims – Love and Protection Are Their Survival, and wrote two songs that reflected her deep spirituality and compassion.
She was united in marriage to the late Ulysses Kee, Jr. From this union came a loving family. She was also preceded in death by her son, Frederick S. Kee, and her brother, Reed Parker.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: three sons—Marvin Kee (Lisa) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; Tony Kee of Brooklyn, New York; and Eric Kee of Newport News, Virginia; one daughter—Rosa Kee of Manassas, Virginia; and one son-at-heart—James Kee (Carolyn) of Norfolk, Virginia.
She is also survived by six brothers: Wesley Reed of Baltimore, Maryland; Clyde Parker, Jr. (Ruth); Herman Parker of Weldon, North Carolina; James Parker of Enfield, North Carolina; Eugene Parker (Deborah) of Hampton, Virginia; and John Parker (Mildred) of Seaboard, North Carolina; and three sisters: Ethel Williams (Lewis) of Newport News, Virginia; Brenda Parker of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; and Evenlyn Jefferson of Emporia, Virginia.
Her legacy lives on through her nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She also held dear two special young people—Kayla Harding and Elijah Shearin—as well as a cherished family friend, like a daughter to her, Tricia Goddard. Elder Betty Mae was deeply loved by many and leaves behind a wide circle of friends and relatives who will forever treasure her memory.
Her life was one of unwavering faith, selfless service, and boundless love.
