Elizabeth Bynum Obituary

THE LIFE & LEGACY OF a Great Woman...

She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all!”

~ Proverbs 31: 26 - 29

Elizabeth Branch Bynum, daughter of the late Mattie Lee Branch began her earthly pilgrimage on May 29, 1928 in Southampton County, Virginia.

Being reared in a Christian home, Elizabeth accepted Jesus Christ, early in life, as her personal Savior and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Severn, North Carolina. It was there that her spiritual gifts were developed and love for God deepened. She was a faithful member of the church, serving in several capacities, until her demise.

Elizabeth loved people and was known by many for her affection, genuine love and infectious smile, that could easily brighten anyone’s day. Her smile was also accompanied by a warm and bubbly personality. She enjoyed spending quality time with her family; especially children. She was a very strong minded woman, kind and a giving woman of faith. She loved her family with all of her heart and would do anything she could for them. Children brought her great joy. Nothing made Elizabeth more happy than having children around her. She not only loved her children and grandchildren, but all children and would take them in and nurture them just as her own. Elizabeth also found great joy in cooking for her family and friends alike. Many palates have been tempted by her tasty dishes, and how can we forget her signature homemade biscuits with cheese?

For many years, Elizabeth was employed with Narricot Industries of Boykins, Virginia and Severn Peanut Company, Severn North Carolina, to help provide for her family. Her qualities of hard work, fear of God, respect she had for her husband, love for her children, foresight, encouragement, care for others, concern for the poor and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth.

Oh, they tell me of a home, Far beyond the skies. Oh, they tell me of a home, So far away. Yes, they tell me of a home, Where no storm clouds rise. Oh, they tell me, Yes, they tell me of an uncloudy day. On Friday, January 28, 2022; while in the care of Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie, North Carolina, God lifted Elizabeth from this world of sin, sorrow and pain, to a place of peace and sweet eternal rest. Her seeds are well-sown; her service on earth is complete, and she’s now basking in the victory and triumph of eternal life. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Wallace Bynum; daughters, Annie Bynum and Lois Bynum; daughter-at-heart, Veninna Artis; two great-grandchildren, Jermaine Newsome and DeMarkus Person and six brothers, Curtis Branch, Airfield Branch, Bob James Branch, Horace Branch and James R. Branch.

Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you. Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. We who remain, struck by the bitter pain of death, but satisfied with the promise made by God, that He would wipe all tears from our eyes are: two sons, Oscar Bynum of Vass, North Carolina and Ronnie Bynum (Treanna) of Reidsville, Georgia; children-at-heart, Vera Artis of Pendleton, North Carolina, Gloria Ricks (Dwight) of Margarettsville, North Carolina, Joyce Ann Artis of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ellen Bethea of Pendleton, North Carolina, Roshawn Turner (Kisha) of Norfolk, Virginia, Jasmine Fleming of Conway, North Carolina, Malik Moody of Conway, North Carolina, Ronnell Murrell of the home and Kisha Fennell of Brooklyn, New York; sister-in-law, Wanda Bynum-Blanding of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ronnie L.
