Ernest Flythe, Sr. Obituary

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,

neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

~Revelations 21: 4

Ernest Lee Flythe, Sr., son of the late Johnny and Cleo Flythe, began his journey through life on Thursday, November 26, 1942 in Northampton County, North Carolina. He was educated in the Northampton County Public School System.

Ernest lived most of his adult life in Washington, DC, where he was gainfully employed with Saint Elizabeths Hospital. In recent years, he resided with his daughter, Brenda, where he lived until his demise.

On December 15, 1962, Ernest was united in Holy Matrimony to Gladys Harris Flythe. As a beloved, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Ernest had a heart of gold. He would do anything he could to help anyone in need. He loved his family with all of his heart and enjoyed spending quality time with them. His favorite pastimes included: listening to all genres of music and playing the lottery.

“We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name, in life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home…” On Sunday, November 28, 2021; the Heavenly Father called our dear loved one from this world of pain and sorrow to a land of sweet eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: four brothers, Thomas ‘Bo-Bo’, Johnny ‘Buck’, Lewis and Lannie; two brothers-in-law, Melvin and Edward and one son-in-law, Maurice.

“...You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.” We who remain struck by the bitter pains of death, but satisfied at the promises of God; that He will wipe away all tears from our eyes are: his children, Curtis Flythe (Narda) of Norfolk, Virginia, Ernest Lorenzo Flythe of Seaboard, North Carolina, Ernest Garris (Mae) of Courtland, Virginia, Brenda Flythe Rogers of Margarettsville, North Carolina and Kimberly Flythe Newsome (Taiwan) of Jackson, North Carolina; daughter-at-heart, Rev. Jacqueline Harris Dickens (Rev. Dr. Carroll R. Dickens, Sr.) of Henrico, North Carolina; fifteen grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Essie Revel and Virginia Revel both of Hertford, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
