"Sad is the parting, no one can tell: So sudden on earth the sorrow fell,
The blow was hard, the shock severe; To part with one we love so dear.
Dearer still, as days depart; Our loved one's memory will forever live within our hearts!"
With humble submission to the will of God, we pause to honor the life of Erskine Reginald Lawrence. ‘Reggie’, as he was affectionately called, was born on Thursday, July 28, 1970, in Manhattan, New York, to the parentage of Erskine and Bertha Christine Bynum Lawrence.
Early in life ‘Reggie’, relocated to live with his maternal grandparents in Pendleton, North Carolina. Once there, he united in Christian Fellowship and was taught the importance of spiritual guidance at First Baptist Church of Severn, North Carolina.
Growing up in rural Northampton County, ‘Reggie’ attended the Northampton County Schools, graduating from Northampton County High School East of Conway, North Carolina. Many still recall the fond memories that were made, when he was assigned to drive the school bus. He was involved in all parts of the school, as he joined the football and wrestling teams. In 1989, after graduation he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country until he was honorably discharged. After which, he relocated to Salinas, California, where he met Jenelle Brown and had his first child, Zakia.
Missing the East Coast for a period of time, Reggie moved to New York, where he met Michele Ward, with whom he had Imani and Malikah. Seeking an opportunity to help provide for his family, Reggie sought employment at a glass factory and at one point, was a foster parent to three siblings who were in need.
As life progressed, in June 2004, ‘Reggie’ married Paulette Gadson of Eutawville, South Carolina. This union was blessed with two children, Keionna and Saeed and soon they relocated from New York to South Carolina. Eventually ‘Reggie’ settled back home to North Carolina and began working with Northeastern Homecare in Conway, North Carolina.
You never said I'm leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it and only God knows why. In life we loved you dearly. In death we love you still. In our hearts we hold a place, that only you can fill. On Monday, June 14, 2021; our hearts were saddened at the sudden passing of our dear loved one. In addition to his father, ‘Reggie’ was preceded in death by: his brother, Kevin Deloatch Jr.; his maternal great-grandparents, Lee Burden & Bertha Deloatch Daye, Oscar & Georgia Gatling Bynum; maternal grandparent, Oliver Bynum; paternal grandparent Glenn & Mamie Tyner Lawrence; uncle, Oliver Lafayette Bynum and aunt, Eula Bynum Vaughan.
We thought of you today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday and the day before that too. We think of you in silence and often speak your name. Now all we have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we'll never part. God has you in His keeping and we have you in our hearts. Those left to cherish his memories are: five children, Zakia Lawrence Lamb (Troy) of Monterey, California, Imani Lawrence of Suffolk, Virginia, Malikah Lawrence of Queens, New York, Keionna Lawrence (Briona) and Saeed ‘Aziz’ Lawrence both of the home; four grandchildren, Troy Lamb Jr., Kye Lamb, Genesis Lamb and Sa’Mari Lawrence; his loving mother, Bertha Christine Bynum Denson of Pendleton, North Carolina, his devoted grandmother, Gracie Daye Bynum of Pendleton, North Carolina; his siblings, Kent Lawrence of Pendleton, North Carolina, Misty Lawrence of Winston Salem, North Carolina, KaaVonia ‘Kay’ Hinton-Johnson (Tony) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Tiffany Deloatch Armstrong (Todd) of Newport News, Virginia; cousins/sisters-at-heart, Brandy Bynum Dawson (Mel), Tonya Newsome-Alston (Louis) and Diedre Newsome Baldwin (Calvin); cousins/brothers-at-heart, Andre Williams (Tamara), Eric Vaughan (Monica) and Eley ‘EJ’ Newsome; aunts, Flora ‘Lucille’ Newsome, Senthia ‘Claudine’ Newsome, Mary Ann Granger and Geraldine Bynum; nephews, Raheen Malik Leecost Banks and Tyrik Amir Lawrence; special friends, Jessica Dickerson, Michele Ward & their children, Darrick Ward, Dara Pressley & children, Tairon & Tabari Pressley, Jayden Lassiter, DaNaijha Dickerson and Kimeko Vaughan; a host of other relatives and friends.
