“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose,
for all that we love deeply, becomes a part of us.”
It all began one chilly November day that life was bestowed upon Eugene Odom, Jr., as he was born to parentage of the late Eugene Odom, Sr. and Ellen Branch Odom in Southampton County, Virginia. Being reared in the Odom residence, Eugene received his formal education from the Portsmouth Public School System of Virginia.
As life progressed, Eugene developed a love for God and became a member of the Galilee Baptist Church in Branchville, Virginia - it was there that his faith was strengthened and knowledge of God increased. Later in life, Eugene met and married the love of his life, Norris Odom and this marriage was blessed with many children and children-at-heart. Eugene was a loving husband for over 21 years, a dedicated father and compassionate grandfather. Desiring to support and provide for his family, Eugene was no stranger to hard work. For many years, he was gainfully employed with Severn Peanut Company, where he held various positions until his health began to fail and he retired.
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My Life’s been full, I savoured much, Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch, Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free - On Thursday, August 27, 2020; while in the serenity of his home Eugene was set free to experience the joy and pleasure of eternal life. In addition to his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his brother, Wardell Odom.
May the winds of heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear, how much we love and miss you and wish that you were here. We who remain that continue to whisper to heaven words of love and remembrance as we pass him to God’s keeping and care are: his loving wife, Norris Odom; children, Gerard Odom (Clara) of Norfolk, Virginia, Kevin Odom (Marsha) of San Antonio, Texas and Michelle Randolph (Clarence) of Jacksonville, Florida; children-at-heart, Micheal Rogers (Patricia) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina, Nicola Everette (Toby) of Conway, North Carolina, Michelle Vaughan (Jeffrey Harris) of Pendleton, North Carolina and Joyce Norman (Renaldo) of Windsor, North Carolina; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
