Evelyn Odom Harris

Evelyn Odom Harris, daughter of Georgia Odom Jerman and the late Edward Lee Odom, Sr. was born on Monday, December 5th, 1960 in Halifax County, North Carolina. departed her earthly life on Saturday, May 18th, 2024, while in the serenity of her home.

Evelyn was educated in the Northampton County Schools, where her passion for children eventually led her back as a dedicated teacher assistant and bus driver for 30 years. She also obtained her cosmetology license and opened her own hair salon, Shop 2000. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and traveling with her family. Evelyn was baptized at an early age at Branches Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a devoted member throughout her life.

On September 1, 1979, Evelyn married her childhood sweetheart, Randy Harris. Their union was blessed with two loving children.

In addition to her father, Evelyn was preceded in death by: her brother, Jerry Lewis Odom, her stepfather, Palmer Jerman, and her grandparents, Leroy and Henrietta Odom, and Elua Taylor.

Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Randy Harris; her two daughters, Kimberly Walker of Jackson, North Carolina and Erica Sledge (Michael) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Eric Goode, Kenya Goode, Montrey Everett, Michael Sledge, Jr., and Mariah Sledge; and two great-grandchildren, Kenzil Robinson and Celeste Goode. She is also survived by her mother, Georgia Jerman of Jackson, North Carolina; her sister, Delois Purnell (Sam) of Jackson, North Carolina; her brother, Edward Odom, Jr.; and her nieces/daughters-at-heart, Fanisha Solomon (Alfred) of Durham, North Carolina, Christie Long of Durham, North Carolina, and Sandra Odom of Seaboard, North Carolina. Additionally, she leaves behind her dear friend/sister-at-heart, Resa Jarrell, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Evelyn's warm spirit and dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
