I am leaving you with a gift —peace of mind and heart.
And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give.
So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Fransine Loretta Ridley Grant, 71, of Boykins, Virginia, peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, April 4th, 2025, in the comfort of her home. Born on Tuesday, January 19th, 1954, in Southampton County, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Lorenzo Jones and Ruth V. Ridley. Fransine graduated from Southampton County Public Schools and went on to have a fulfilling career. Many in the community knew her from her time working at Roses in Franklin for several years, as well as from her 17 years of service at the Greensville Correctional Facility before her retirement.
Though she was a petite woman, Fransine had a big personality that touched the lives of everyone she met. She was an avid bingo player and cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of her life. Fransine also had a special bond with her pet dog, Sassy, and was known for her green thumb —she lovingly cared for at least 15 plants that filled and surrounded her home.
Fransine was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Ridley. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Alvares Tee Ridley (Goletha) of Boykins, Virginia and Christopher Woodley (Tamara) of Hampton, Virginia, as well as the father of her children, Alvin Woodley of Branchville, Virginia. Her legacy also lives on through her grandchildren: Tyshawn Jackson, Tre` Urquhart -Ridley, Diamond Amani Ridley, Christopher Woodley Jr., and Ashanti Shoulders. She is further survived by her brothers, MacArthur Ridley, Bernard Jones, and Maurice Jones, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
Fransine’s memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
