Georgia Lottear Flythe, daughter of the late Elijah and Lula Mizelle Joyner was born in Margarettsville, North Carolina on July 10, 1929. She peacefully transitioned into the heavenly realm on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Sentara CarePlex Hospital, in Hampton, Virginia.
At an early age, she developed a love of God and joined Zoar Missionary Baptist Church. Even when she moved away to another state, she frequently visited and fellowshipped at Zoar, for this was her church home. She attended Willis Hare High School and was accepted to Elizabeth City State Teachers College.
Georgia was united in holy matrimony on August 23, 1949, to the late Clyde Columbus Flythe. To this union, four children were born. Myrtle Cassandra Flythe (Deceased), Clyde Christopher Flythe Jr. (Deceased), Deidre Savita Flythe, Terrence Leander Flythe. Georgia had an unyielding love for her children and family.
She was a long-time resident of Newport News, Va.-- 40 plus years. Georgia had a loving and nurturing disposition. Her children realized this about their mom, not only towards them, as she was a ‘stay-at-home mom’ until they entered &/or completed middle school, but also witnessed it through her interaction with members of the community. She found great joy helping her elderly neighbors who she loved to talk as they often dropped by as she went about her daily tasks as a home maker. She also was trusted and loved by the younger adults in the neighborhood, and they would ask her to look after their babies, while they were either trying to finish their education or working. She also had many good friends, a great story teller, and enjoyed a good laugh, and she also loved to dip her snuff.
She was employed at Plymkraft Inc., manufacturing specialty roping products and cable insulation for the U.S. Military and other industries, for over 20 plus years before she retired in 1991. During this time she took care of her sister Gustava until her passing. After retiring she took care of her first grandchild (Parrish) until he started kindergarten. She then volunteered at the Clark Senior center in Newport News, until she moved back to North Carolina in August of 2000. She was a faithful member to her church home until she fell ill and her son took her back to Hampton to live with him until her passing.
She leaves to cherish her memory. One daughter, Deidre Flythe, of Scottland Neck, NC.; a son Terrence L. Flythe, (DeRonica) of Hampton, Va.; Two grandchildren Parrish L. Flythe of Newport News, Va.; and Terryn I. Flythe, of Hampton, Va.; and one great grandchild.
