Georgia Mitchell Obituary

The golden gates were opened, and a gentle voice said come

with farewell unspoken, she calmly entered home.

It broke our hearts to lose her, but she did not go alone

for part of us went with her the day God called her home.

Georgia Magdaline Magee Mitchell, began her journey through life on Saturday, November 7, 1933 in Northampton County, North Carolina. She was born to the loving care of the late Eva Mable Magee.

Georgia was educated in the Northampton County Public Schools, where she graduated in 1951. Early in life, she accepted Christ, was baptized and became a member of the Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health declined.

On Saturday, August 27, 1955, in Emporia, Virginia, Georgia united in Holy Matrimony to the late John Arthur Mitchell, Sr. Together they built a full life and were blessed with three children, John, Jr., Helen Ruth and Nelson . Seeing the need to help provide for her family, Georgia gained employment with the Seaboard Garment Factory, where she worked for many years. She loved to sew and used her talents to make garments and perform alterations for many throughout her community and abroad. Georgia also loved traveling. Although she didn’t go often, she enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey. In addition, she was a member of Delta Chapter #621 Order of Eastern Star of Seaboard, North Carolina.

Georgia was a sweet spirit, who possessed a thankful heart for the things God gave her, whether big or small. To know her was to love her and she was known by many throughout! Georgia loved her family and devoted her life to caring for her family. Her qualities of hard work, fear of God, respect she had for her husband, love for her children and grandchildren, foresight, encouragement, care for others, concern for the poor and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth. During her life, Georgia has planted seeds of goodness and seeds of kindness, that have blessed our hearts and our beings; and now she shall reap the abundant harvest of eternal life.

On Sunday, September 4, 2022; as the sun began to beam its light upon a new day, the Lord Himself dispatched one of his heavenly angels to escort our dear loved one to that building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. In addition to her mother, Mable; husband, John and son, John Jr., Georgia was preceded in death by: her siblings, Narcissie Cotton, Mable Celeste Magee and McKinley Magee.

Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you. Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. We who remain, struck by the bitter pain of death, but satisfied with the promise made by God, that He would wipe all tears from our eyes are: two children, Helen Ruth Mitchell and Nelson Mitchell, Sr.; one grandson, Nelson Mitchell, Jr.; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Lola Philpot (Leon); a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
