GLENACE JOYNER, affectionately known as “Candygirl,” was born on January 17th, 1960, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Bill Harris and Ethel Joyner of Severn, North Carolina. On April 17th, 2025, Glenace was peacefully called home while in the care of Palliative Care/Hospice at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina.
Glenace received her early education in the Northampton County School system and later pursued her GED at Roanoke Chowan Community College. With a deep calling to care for others, she completed the Nursing Assistant program at Roanoke Chowan Community College in Ahoskie, North Carolina, and proudly became a Certified Nursing Assistant. For 31 years, she dedicated herself to the healthcare field, serving with compassion, dignity, and love. Her gentle spirit and tireless care left a lasting impact on the many lives she touched.
Outside of her professional life, Glenace found joy in the simple pleasures. She loved tending to her flower beds, nurturing houseplants, caring for her fish tank, and especially working on her puzzles. Her home was a reflection of her nurturing soul —full of life, warmth, and quiet beauty.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved daughter Felicia Joyner, four sisters —Katherine, Rosa, Sandra Joyner, and Loistine Joyner -Ponton —and six brothers —Earl Joyner, Dewayner Joyner, Willie Joe, Albert, Rundolph Harris, and Arthur Stephenson. Glenace leaves to cherish her memory two devoted children: Darnell Joyner of Pendleton, North Carolina, and Donella Joyner of Conway, North Carolina. She also leaves behind two loving grandchildren, Jada Joyner of Conway, North Carolina, and Diamond Warren of Severn, North Carolina, as well as one great -grandchild, Loyalty Warren of Severn, North Carolina. Her faithful furry companion, Kash, was always by her side and held a special place in her heart.
She is also survived by her siblings: Minester Joyner Thomas (William) of Conway, North Carolina; JoAnn Joyner -Lloyd (Greg) of Irving, Texas; JoAngelia and Paula Joyner of Severn, North Carolina; Stanley Joyner (Mary Ann) of Seaboard, North Carolina; Lawrence Joyner (Essie) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; Mary Stephenson and Eddie Harris of Severn, North Carolina; Aaron Harris of Conway, North Carolina; Clarence Harris (Merilyn) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; Lorenzo Harris (Ophia) of Como, North Carolina; Garland Stephenson (Gloria) of Garysburg, North Carolina; and Joyce Everette (Lewis) of Hampton, Virginia.
Her extended family includes a host of nieces, nephews, dear friends, and many others who loved her like a mother and whom she loved in return.
Glenace ’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and unwavering kindness. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she now rest in eternal peace with the Lord.
