Glenice 'Bay Bay' Rooks Obituary

Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful

over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things:

enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.

~Matthew 25:23

With heavy hearts and loving remembrance, we celebrate the life of Glenice Person Rooks, affectionately known to family and friends as “Bay Bay,” who peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, faith, and devotion to her family. Born on Tuesday, September 8th, 1959, in Branchville, Virginia, Glenice was the beloved daughter of the late Gentle Washington and Doris Person. She received her education through the Southampton County School System, where she developed the values of hard work, determination, and perseverance that would guide her throughout her life. On Monday, June 1st, 2026, while in the compassionate care of Autumn Care of Suffolk, Virginia, Glenice peacefully transitioned into eternal rest.

For more than 30 years, Glenice faithfully served as a dedicated employee of Narricot Industries. She was admired for her strong work ethic, dependability, and unwavering commitment to excellence. Through her years of service, she earned the respect of her colleagues and formed many lasting friendships. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Glenice’s greatest joy was her family. As a devoted wife, loving mother, treasured grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and loyal friend, she poured her heart into those she loved. Her kindness, wisdom, gentle spirit, and infectious laughter touched countless lives. She was a source of comfort, encouragement, and unconditional love, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Glenice was preceded in death by her parents, Gentle Washington and Doris Person; her sisters, Lorraine Person and Ceolia Brooks; her brother, Edmond Newsome; and her niece, Amesha Stephenson. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband of 39 years, Bennie Junior Rooks; her loving son, Travis Lamar Rooks (Kimberly); and her beloved daughter and devoted caregiver, Tiffany Monique Rooks. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Travis Rooks Jr., Talivia Rooks, Takirah Rooks, Tiamoni Denson, and Tayvion Rooks, and a cherished great-grandmother to Tatum Rooks and Theo Rooks.

She also leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life one sister-in-law, Linda-Jean Jarrett (Linwood); two brothers-in-law, Elder Calvin B. Rooks (Eleanor) and Waylon Rooks (Miranda); and her special friends, Carolyn Deloatch and Donald Bynum. “Bay Bay” also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends who will forever treasure the memories, love, laughter, and joy she shared throughout her life.

Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her legacy of love, faith, compassion, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
