Reflections of My Life...
“I have fought a good fought, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge,
shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
~ II Timothy 4:7-8
Good morning to my loved ones. I go by the name Gloria Dean Alston Scott. I was born on Thursday, July 1, 1948. I finally got to reunite with my parents, Willis Alston, Sr. and Rosa Mae Jones Alston.
I was born and raised in Pleasant Hill, North Carolina, where I was educated in the Northampton County Public School System. During my life, I have worked at the local mills and met many friends. Not only that, I became a Certi ed Nurse’s Assistant and continued my employment in Home Health Care, until my health declined. As I always said, “Helping others helps me”.
On Saturday, June 25, 1966, I united in Holy Matrimony to the love of my life, by the name of Chester Leroy Scott. He transitioned into an angel on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. We were blessed with two beautiful children, Tracey Marie Scott-Godley, who has been a beautiful angel since Tuesday, December 1, 2015. I also have a wonderful son, Anthony Leroy Scott (Pamela).
At an early age, I gave my life to Christ and united in Christian Fellowship with the Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church of Gaston, North Carolina. I joined the Adult Choir, Pastor’s Guild, Mass Choir and Senior Choir. I never in my life sang in front of a crowd, but when I finally led the song, “We Serve A God”, I knew then how God could really use me.
Even though I am physically gone, my spirit remains with my family. I have three precious grandchildren, Ashley Scott, who lived with me; Quinton Goodley, who resides in Charlotte, North Carolina and Kendra Hudson (Brandon), who resides in Midlothian, Virginia. I have seven great-grandchildren, Austin, TJ, RJ, Charli, Saige, August and Ariah. They kept me going, no matter what.
I have three sisters, Brenda Brown (Richard) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Judy Mason of Newport News, Virginia and Shirley Robinson of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. I also have three brothers, Cephas Alston of Columbia, South Carolina, Clinton Alston (Jane) of Garysburg, North Carolina and Willis Alston, Jr. (Harriett) of Hampton, Virginia.
I was preceded in death by six siblings, who are all now angels, Lola Robinson, Jeanette Witcher, James Alston, Edward Alston, Peggy Alston and Donnie Alston. In addition, I have one aunt, Mary Haynes, who resides in Chesapeake, Virginia; who is still moving and being blessed.
Through the years, I was blessed with many nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends that I will never forget. Even though I gained my wings February 2, 2022, I will forever be your Guardian Angel.
