Gwendolyn Ann Moody Carter, daughter of the late Ernest T. Moody, Sr. and Edith Garner Moody, was born on Tuesday, November 10, 1959, in Northampton County, North Carolina.
Gwendolyn was educated in the Northampton County School System. Realizing the need for a Personal Savior, she gave her life to the Lord and united in Christian Fellowship with the Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church, Gaston, North Carolina, where she served faithfully until the Lord called her home.
Gwendolyn learned very early on the value of hard work. She began working at 2nd Street Lunch, before transitioning to Lake Gaston School, where she served as a janitor for two years. As life progressed, she became gainfully employed with J. P. Stevens Company of Roanoke Rapids, where she was a dedicated employee for twenty years. Her favorite pastimes included cooking and watching soap operas. Many can attest that her tasty dishes have tempted their palates. She also loved talking on the telephone, playing spades and spending quality time with her family. She never passed up on an opportunity to support and show love to her family and close friends.
Gwendolyn was known to many by her affection, genuine love and infectious smile that could easily brighten anyone’s day. Her smile was accompanied by a warm and bubbly personality along with a great fashion sense. She loved to dress and she was a beautiful person both internally and externally.
On October 4, 2003, Gwendolyn was united in Holy Matrimony to Rev. Leon Alfonso Carter. This union spanned over 18 blessed years.
Oh, they tell me of a home, Far beyond the skies. Oh, they tell me of a home, So far away. Yes, they tell me of a home, Where no storm clouds rise. Oh, they tell me, Yes, they tell me of an uncloudy day. On Saturday, August 6, 2022; while in the serenity of her home, surrounded by her loving family; God lifted Gwendolyn from this world of sin, sorrow and pain, to a place of peace and sweet eternal rest. Her seeds are well-sown; her service on earth is complete, and she’s now basking in the victory and triumph of eternal life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her beloved grandmother, Odessa Garner; three siblings, Ernest T. Moody, Jr., Gloria Faye Moody-Robinson and Arthur Pernell; and her father-in-law, Marion Carter.
"Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you." Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by all those whose lives she touched: her husband, Rev. Leon A. Carter; two loving sons, Travis Moody (Stephanie) of Murfreesboro, North Carolina and Timothy Moody (Marcia) of Garysburg, North Carolina; four sons-at-heart, Tavern Carter (KeKe) of Mississippi, Terryl Carter of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Tercell Carter (Ashley) of Weldon, North Carolina and Terrill Carter of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; one brother, Johnny Earl Moody (Tanangela) of Garysburg, North Carolina; one sister, Linda Robinson of Gaston, North Carolina; twenty-two grandchildren; four aunts; mother-in-law, Edith Carter of Enfield, North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Moody of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and Barbara Harvey (Charles) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; brothers-in-law, Melvin Robinson of Gaston, North Carolina, Carner Carter (Brenda) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, John Carter of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dennis Carter (Wanda) of Whitakers, North Carolina, Melvin Carter (Jeanette) of Enfield, North Carolina and Robert Carter (Cassandra) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; a host of nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Keisha Jenkins of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and Tiffany Moody of Garysburg, North Carolina; God sister, Deborah James; brother-at-heart, Billy Pernell; telephone buddy, Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Squire; two best friends, Betty Burgess and Rosa Mae Gilchrist; other relatives and friends.
