REMEMBERING Gwendolyn...
There’s a very special garden, Where the trees of memory grow Nurtured by the kindness and concern that good friends show.
The roots are cherished memories, Of good times in the past. The branches tender promises that souls endure and last.
It’s a place of peace and beauty, where bright new hopes can start It’s memory’s lovely garden that soothes the hurting heart.
Today, we pause to pay tribute to the memory of Gwendolyn Elaine Gilliam Lloyd, who was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was one, who loved her family with all her heart, and not only nurtured her family, but enriched the lives of many.
On Saturday, September 1, 1956, the life journey of Gwendolyn began in Northampton, North Carolina as she was born to the parentage of the late James Henry Gilliam, Sr. and Clara Juanita Lee Gilliam. While growing up in the Gilliam residence, she joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church of Seaboard, North Carolina, under the leadership of the late Rev. McKinley Nicholson. She received a limited, yet formal, education in the Northampton County School System.
As life progressed, Gwendolyn decided to join the workforce and became gainfully employed with Hampton Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Jackson, North Carolina, as a dietary aide for several years. Seeing the need to continue providing for her family, she sought and obtained employment with John B. Sanfilippo and Son of Garysburg, North Carolina, as a Quality Control Operator - she worked there for over 20 years, until her retirement.
After retirement Gwendolyn filled her time with her family, especially her grandkids. Her favorite pastimes were playing Bubble Blast on her cellphone and most of all buying all kinds of pocketbooks - oh how she loved her pocketbooks.
She’s in the sun, the wind, the rain, she’s in the air you breathe with every breath you take. She sings a song of hope and cheer, there’s no more pain, no more fear. You’ll see her in the clouds above, hear her whisper words of love, you’ll be together before long, until then listen for her song. On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, our dear loved one was summoned home to eternal rest and peace, while in the care of Vidant North Hospital, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Her seeds are well sown, her service on earth is complete, and she now experiences the victory and triumph of eternal life and we can hear her spirit utter these words, “I am at peace, my soul’s at rest, there is no need for tears, for with your love I was so blessed, for all those many years.” In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a daughter, Yolanda Boone; a brother, James Gilliam, Jr. and a sister, Linda Diann Gilliam.
Treasured memories of love will forever be within our hearts as we pass her into God’s care are: five children, Angela Nicole Tyler (Jerry) of Weldon, North Carolina, Amy Denise Rawls (Jamie) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Carl Antonio Boone of Garysburg, North Carolina, Anita Martay Boone of Wilson, North Carolina and Aquia Ce’Vondra Boone of Weldon, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Clara Balmer (Larry) of Temple Hills, Maryland, Sandra Wiggins (Larry) of Ahoskie, North Carolina and Nora Gilliam of Murfreesboro, North Carolina; a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including, Rosa Newsome and Patricia Stanley.
