“What we once enjoyed and deeply loved, we can never lose,
for all that we love deeply, becomes a part of us.”
Hazel Lassiter Purnell, daughter of the late Johnny Lassiter and Mildred Bowser Lassiter, began her journey through life on Sunday, September 18, 1949 in Halifax County, North Carolina.
Hazel obtained her education through the Halifax County Public School System. Early in life, she accepted Christ and joined Simmons Grove Baptist Church of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
Hazel was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family with all of her heart and enjoyed spending quality time with them. She also brought her family much joy with her laughs and humorous jokes. Her favorite pastimes included crocheting and playing bingo.
On Tuesday, October 12, 2021; while in the care of Vidant North Hospital, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; God plucked a beautiful flower to add to his heavenly bouquet. Hazel was escorted to the gates of heaven by one of the angels to join her family that preceded her in death; including: her parents; her sisters, Johnny Mae Lassiter and Mary Louise Lassiter and the love of her life, Arthur Wright Brown.
We thought of you today, but that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday and the day before that too. We think of you in silence and often speak your name. Now all we have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has you in His keeping and we have you in our hearts: her children, Isabella Roberts (Larry Barber) of Jackson, North Carolina, Mildred Hawkins (Ricky) of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and Ceasar Lassiter (Krystal) of Pennsylvania; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, including a special nephew, Jeffrey Lassiter; other relatives and friends.
Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mrs. Purnell's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family.
