Irene Rogers Obituary

Irene Walden Rogers, daughter of the late Starkie Walden Sr. and Ola Mae Flood Walden, began her journey through life on Saturday, December 12, 1932 in Northampton County, North Carolina. She was educated in the Northampton County Public School System.

Having God as an integral part of her upbringing, Irene accepted Christ as her Lord and Savoir, early in life and joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Jackson, North Carolina. Later in life, she united in Christian Fellowship with the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Margarettsville, North Carolina, where she remained a faithful servant until her demise.

On Saturday, April 24, 1948, Irene was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Henry Rogers, Sr. This union was blessed with seven loving children and four generations of grandchildren.

During her lifetime, Irene held various positions of employment, as a cook and home health aide. Irene was a beautiful person, both externally and internally. She had a heart of gold and would do anything she could to help anyone in need. Irene was a woman of faith, strength and tenacity. She also possessed a beautiful smile, throughout her own illness, that was sure to brighten anyone’s day. Irene enjoyed spending quality time with those she loved. Being in the presence of family brought her great joy! She also enjoyed cooking, playing cards and watching her favorite television shows; which included Steve Harvey, Jimmy Swaggart and sports.

Irene’s qualities of hard work, fear of God, respect she had for her husband, love for her children, foresight, encouragement, care for others, concern for the poor and love for her family, all led her to a life of enjoyment, honor and worth. During her life, Irene has planted seeds of goodness and seeds of kindness, that have blessed our hearts and our beings; and now she shall reap the abundant harvest of eternal life.

On Monday, August 15, 2022; while in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family, Irene peacefully crossed over to be with her heavenly father. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Irene was preceded in death by: one son, Henry Rogers, Jr., granddaughter, Lisa Mitchell Porter and daughter-in-law, Gloria Rogers.

Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of our special needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole life through, we will always love and cherish you. Her sweet spirit, caring heart and generosity will long be remembered by: six children, Barbara Wiggins (Harvey) of Pocomoke City, Maryland, Mildred Jenkins of Margarettsville, North Carolina, Jessie Rogers of the home, James Wayne Rogers of Paterson, New Jersey, Gloria D. Balmer of Margarettsville, North Carolina and Ella Barber (James) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; twenty-one grandchildren, five in which she reared just as her own; fifty greatgrandchildren; twenty-seven great, great-grandchildren; ten great, great, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geneva Kee of Rich Square, North Carolina and Eleanor Bragg (John) of Jackson, North Carolina; one daughter-in-law, Norris Odom of Pendleton, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Walden of Jackson, North Carolina and Mary Walden of Ahoskie, North Carolina; devoted caretaker, Marcella Everette; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
