Jamal Deloatch Obituary

“Sad is the parting, no one can tell: So sudden on earth the sorrow

fell, The blow was hard, the shock severe; To part with one we love

so dear. Dearer still, as days depart; Our loved one’s memory will

forever live within our hearts!”

On Saturday, July 5th, 2025, Jamal Lashawn Deloatch, affectionately known as “Mal” or “Mal Mal” by those closest to him, entered into eternal rest at his home in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He was 27 years old.

Jamal was born on Thursday, April 16th, 1998, in Halifax County, North Carolina, to Reginald Vurgia Deloatch and the late Lisa Linette Buffaloe. He was raised in Northampton County, where he graduated proudly with the Class of 2016 from Northampton County High School. Guided by a strong desire for knowledge and personal growth, Jamal went on to pursue higher education at Chowan University, where he embraced new experiences and learning opportunities.

Throughout his life, Jamal was known for his kind heart, dedication, and the unconditional love he showed to his family, friends, and community. A hardworking and driven individual, he brought consistency and excellence to every role he held. Jamal served for nearly six years as a Team Lead/Supervisor at Walmart and was most recently employed as a Field Technician with Charter Spectrum. Whether in his career or his personal relationships, he left a meaningful and lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Above all else, Jamal was a “Real” Family Man—a steadfast provider, protector, and pillar of strength. He cherished his role as a father, son, partner, and brother, finding joy in the simple moments spent with his loved ones—whether during family gatherings, outings, or everyday routines. His deep sense of responsibility and unwavering love were the foundation of his relationships.

Jamal also nurtured a variety of passions that reflected his creative and joyful spirit. He found connection and happiness through his love of video games, where he built lifelong friendships that stood the test of time. He enjoyed basketball, shopping, going to the movies, and exploring new restaurants. Music was particularly meaningful to him—not only as entertainment but as a deeply personal outlet. Jamal often wrote and composed songs, expressing his thoughts and emotions with quiet intensity and sincerity. His late-night sessions with friends were filled with laughter, music, and heartfelt memories.

Jamal was the embodiment of warmth, humility, and compassion. With a gentle soul and strong character, he was a devoted father, a loving son and brother, and a loyal, trusted friend. His laughter, playfulness, and quiet strength brought light to the lives of many, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.

He is lovingly survived by his life partner and soulmate, Winter Jones, and beloved son, Kai Jamal Deloatch, both of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. He leaves behind his father, Reginald V. Deloatch (Lisa Westbrook), of Conway, North Carolina; his devoted brother, Justin Deloatch, also of Conway, North Carolina; and his grandparents, William Deloatch and Hattie Deloatch, of Conway, North Carolina who lovingly guided and supported him throughout his life.

Jamal will be fondly remembered by, his lifelong best friend, Jonathan Bland, whose friendship remained steadfast through every season of life. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, coworkers, and friends, each of whom was deeply touched by his presence, warmth, and love.

Jamal’s legacy is one of love, strength, dedication, and generosity. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his light continues to shine through his son and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be missed beyond words, remembered always, and cherished forever.
